Awesome man..I really appreciate all the Fremont pics you've shared..Some of them have been passed on to an artist friend of mine, Chris Walsh, http://www.studio7finearts.com/artdetail.php?id=2561 who is working on an Original piece, which will be Fremont dragstrip circa early 60's.

  14. Most excellent! Made my day, thanks.

Thanks!!! I really miss that place, and these pictures really made the memories come back....so many famous cars -- Gotelli, M&R, etc...and a lot of little guys who never made the headlines but were still the backbone of the sport.

Hey HEMI32, do you have my Fremont issue of Church? Pics from 1961 -1964 that we found it my dads garage. Very similar to yours....but all black and white. Your color pics RULE!!!!!

my dad was a flag starter from 62 to 64 before he built a top fuel car, quit and went racing. That MIGHT be him in your pics, but I can't tell. He looks bigger than some of the old pics I've see, but maybe it's just those sweet white pants!!!!! Is there any way I can get these higher rez to show him and my brother? I will gladly pay for all costs involved, and send you a few of my issues to boot.

Hello Hemi 32, I really enjoyed the photos. Thank you for your effort to share them. I was living in Hayward in 1964 and attended my fisrt drag race ever that year at Fremont. I saw a 7 second fueler match race a jet
car two out of three. I don't remember the names of course. Once I
found the way to Fremont I would ride my ten speed bike all the way there. After the races I would often catch a ride home in the back of someones pickup. Often it would be a racers tow rig. Quite a thrill for
a 15 year old! Indeed, I remember Freemont... MickeyC

  23. Glad you guys are enjoying them!

Marcus ... no problem ... in fact, if there's a particular image that Chris would like to use for inspiration, I can certainly get him a much higher resolution scan (with way more detail than the low-rez images I have posted here).

Coby ... which starter do you think might be your Dad? ...

... or someone else working near the starting line (wearing a red shirt & those sweet white pants :D)?

Seeing the way you've cropped those, I'd almost put money that the handsome fella on the right is my pops.

I think it was a Fuller..Fuller built their former purple car which Bob Haines rolled when he couldn't get the chute out...I seem to remember that the car in this shot was formerly the Champion Speed Shop Chev car, which then went to M&R after the crash...anyone got better information?
