Does anyone know what Ford automatic transmission will bolt up to a 300 inline six? (non FI ) [email protected]
Wasn't there also some unusual C-5 that Ford put behind it in some 70's F-150 trucks or am I just geezin?
Yer not Geezin'! AFAIK, the C5's were around in the early 80's, and there were some of them behind the 300 I6 motors.
The 300 has the same bellhousing as a small block Ford, so any of those transmissions will work. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Yup, same as small block, but with a neutral balance flexplate/flywheel. The C5 was a C4 with a lockup converter. Has a different valve body and deeper bellhousing. The case, planetaries and clutch packs have some upgrades for better cooling and oiling. It's a good base for a performance C4 build with some parts swapping.
My son is way into later model Fords: he told me a short story about a Galaxie with a 460, C4 A.T. with C5 clutch packs, 200+ runs (high 10 seconds!) that heavy Galaxie and the tranny lived. Amazing factory parts hopups in that Ford line!
I'm going to do a cam and a couple of other things to the 300 with a aftermarket 4 barrel intake with 2 holley 94 carbs on a Speedway adapter!
