My Favorite Texan is wrapping his flatty in Kanadian Aluminum.....

I thought you fellas might be interested.
These are all emails tucked into this post.

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Here ya go Bob......I will haul these down to Rowdy Up. The pics are not the best and the pittinging in the chamber is small. These were a dealer only request. Only made in Canada to increase compression and aid in cooling. ...... ALUMINUM.
Aluminum early heads are common... late flat engine heads of these nature are rare.
All the roundy round guys had these running and were a factory "race head".
Only place they were cast and made was the giant Alcan factory in Kingston Ontario. Neil is dropping them off at my home March 15th. They are paid for already.
Here is the email I got from Neil......

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Jeff: Here are your new Canadian heads for the boiler.

According to Noel (very good friends with Dennis Carpenter) these heads were offered by Ford as a dealer installed option for H.P., heat dissaption and performance. However; Noel believes he saw a pair of these heads on a Meteor from the factory, but who really knows. Anyways, these heads were "Canadian" only and are very sought after.

There is some pitting in the combustion chamber on one head approximately 1/16" deep, however, the heads are oner 1/4" thick in this area. The remaining 7 chambers are nice and only have slight corrosion in the chambers. I would run a chase threw each spark plug hole and water jacket/pipe thread before I installed any plugs, etc.

Each head placed on the tire/rim remained in the same location for picture taking, therefore; to give you an idea of what each head looks like from the front and back.

    Neil.....

If Bob wants, the pitts can be welded/filled/smoothed out.....The pics are not the best...

or just run them as is.:)

I know you expect sarcasm from myself, (I don't know why, I'm a pretty serious guy afterall...) BUT, as far as polishing those heads. I wonder if it makes the heads run hotter. If all the original lumps and bumps and general texture are removed, does that not, in effect, reduce the surface area?

Could be I'm way off base, although this would be a first, but I thought I throw that out there....

Wish I could comb your hair in Austin, but I'm sticking around to get some stuff done. Send me something cool, Jeffe!

Aww c'mon Jeemee..... its a flathead fer gawd sakes!..... one step up from a Briggs and Stratton,
    ha ha ha

I own a coupla of them Arden Dodge overhead conversion motors myself..... otherwise known a 241 hemi.

I sure am gonna miss ya at the Rowdee Up.I will send you something nice......

  14. I would tend to think that the reduction in surface area is minimal....however, a flat black surface will shed far more heat than a polished one...some sources say as much as 10x more....doubt it makes much difference on, say, a SBC, but a flatty? Dunno...others here would know better than I.

At any rate, they sure ARE purty.

The heads with centre outlet are readily available up here.
The '49 and up are the rare ones.

Those are going to end up in the trunk of the '58 when I leave Wellington. Those are going to look good on that flatty.

Nice score. I have a set of centre inlet ones that I brought at a swap meet a few years back. I havent cc'd them but one seems to have been milled quite a lot. There isn't much chamber left!

Wonmdereing if I can run two head gaskets or is that just stupid?
