Picked up a pair of Cragar rims and new M/T slicks which are a 1/2 '' shorter...... cut a large hole in the firewall..........engine is currently sitting w/ the # 1 sparkplug at the centerline of the front axle.......so it is at 0% set back [neutral]..........the dizzy is right up against the rear of the dash board.........not sure where it will end up as of yet........Dave

Are you going to try to take this car too the Meltdown Drags this year? My son and I are going to try to go there this year. We also go to Bowling Green every year. We would love to see this car in person.

  6. Great to see you cut that firewall and move that engine back, header fitment may be a challenge but hey what the hell !

You will have to get those pictures from superchargednailhead, they were taken from my picture collection years ago and i never got them back, I am away from home for the next three months, It looks like you will have the project done by then, If not I can send you pictures of the 440 powered car after i finished it. If my memory is corrrect the back of the holley carb, fuel bowl was even with the front lower edge of the windshield, My cowl was cut at the rear edge of the hood, so the top of the cowl under the hood was gone. Id be glad to send those pictures when i get home, the rear of the car looks better lower

Didn't that car hit the wall going down the track after John sold it? I remember that car from the early 90s.

Yes.......it is all mentioned in this thread..........The car will track now better than it ever did and faster, most of this car needs re-done and not much will go untouched except the interior......The 2nd owner lost control of it.........Dave

Ahh.. I am guilty of skimming... read the first couple pages and the last couple. I'm glad Steve chimed in to give you the skinny. Poor guy had to wash my drool off his old cabriolet every time I saw it.

I always liked the stance the henry j had sat right. Was a cool car

That should make pulling the distributor easier, being inside the car!

  18. Incredible project!! Crystal clear photos. :)
Truly amazing how perfect these cars look, as dragsters. Tee-rific metal fabrication. Really dig the rear axle 4 link brackets. Also, the blue and white color scheme is my all-time favorite!! Reminds me of the Silver Sapphire aka Little Deuce Coupe.

Jakespeed.. it was a very cool car to begin with gear jammer has the magic touch for turning cool cars. from the quality of work that's being done to it now I'm sure it will be restored to its former glory.. even if I'm not a fan of his engine choice :D

Didn't mean a literal restoration.. just meant it will be a cool car again lol.

You can't beat the small block for power per dollar but that blown nailhead it ran was pretty stout!

Did you have any details on the powerplant?

Glad to see the firewall and cowl finally getting a trim! I'm sure it will look much better once you've fabricated new pieces!

Henry J's are weird little cars, kind of a cabover car, you allmost have to have the motor in your lap to get any weight on the rear. my friend has raced Henry J's for 50 years, he still races the one he built in 1962 ! it now has a 598 cu in Shafroff(spelling ?) BBC in it ! you just have to cut your way in to get to REAL car, like Dave did ! Really BITCHIN car Dave !! Chris
