I cant recall the name of the fireman who owned this car, Jim Stevens I think. The car was Boss 302 powered, that I know. I saw him win modified eliminator and the innaugural NHRA Supernationals in 1970.

Yes, Jim Stevens had run this Roadster with limited success in the mid-late '60s with the 260 & 289. The first race with the Boss 302, he won the inaugural Supernationals in 1970. Within a year he captured the March Meet Title and the NHRA World Championship. Despite being built to the old rules with a Model A frame & Steel body, the car was very competitive until 1974, when he won the Div. 7 Championship.

He later ran a Super Modified Maverick. He has been in the Land Speed Racing Scene since the early 90s, holding several records, mostly in the Flathead classes, including several records with this very roadster (with a new fiberglass body). Of late, he just missed the ultimate flathead world record going 306 mph in the Costella & Yacoucci Streamliner as they were unable to back it up on the return run.

OK I know the red Temple roadster is not at the drags in this picture, but I have seen it at Fremont so it should count. The other picture of one of my all time favorites just came in the Email I remember it purple but that don't count. Waters and Shugrue ruled
