Number 1: I recall seeing a front engined (X4) car @ Peterson's Automotive Museum over a decade ago. It had four, yes four 427 SOHC engines. It was blue, and SICK! I was green and horrified. 2: The Greer Black Prudomme car that was featured in RJ and also shown years ago at Peterson's. Anyone remember that car's record? I recall it was pretty astonishing. Great thread, Ryan.
If memory serves me correctly, the advertised record for GBP was something like 207-7, but according to one source (that I can't seem to put my fingers on right now), that was probably the result of some ambitious advertising "statistics." Regardless, they were more than a little tough to beat.
I hope to hell this picture comes up okay, I'm not good at posting but this is one of the most beautiful and baddest fuel cars from the nitro ban era. RIP Hand Vincent...
GBP, 554, ...50 Fraud's list! The Jocko liner owned by Norm longfield in Australia isn't dead, just a bit roughed up, I've had the oportunity to check it out at it in his shop.
Here's some. 4tford, you'll remember these, I bet. Dick Jesse's "Mr. Unswitchable" '65 GTO funnycar at Milan Dragway. Jesse was a performance salesman at Royal Pontiac. I helped a friend order a new '64 Goat from him. Painter/striper Paul Hatton and Paul Stephanski's cammer Mustang funny at Milan. Stefanski ran a C/S '57 Ford w/supercharged 312 at Detroit Dragway in the early '60s. Dick Smith's '65 Mopar funny at Motor City Dragway. Those were some really fun times back then. Thanks for the memories, guys! Bill Stinson
Oh guys, you all gave me eye candy with your posts. But I must admit the Giampetroni’s ‘27 "T" has this little touch that makes me absolutely crazy. Thank you so much Hambers for all ur posts.
I loved the Glass slipper too.....snappped a photo of the front suspension when the car was sisplayed at goodguys Desmoines a few years ago
The scrubline police look like he's getting ready to draw down. The guy obviously had balls, at least for awhile.
Yeah, and a good part of my mis-spent youth was spent dog-earing my HRMs. Waters roadster was one of my favorites, but another, similar, roadster was the Kalivoda T from the early 60s that I liked as well:
Fuel Alterds have always been my favorite darg cars. Fiats,Bataams,T's,etc. Gives me chills when I see them run now. My big brother used to take me to Lions Dragstrip when I was a kid. Good memories.
I'm with you on the Giampetronis T. Speed Sports right behind it and two cars built for the salt but also looked damn good with slicks on them at the track.
