The 60's was a wonderful time to be a teenager but I hated always having to beg sometime for a ride to the drag strip. If it had not been 52 miles away I would have rode my bike!

Minsky ' s Hi Riser was from San Francisco was a AHRA B/A Record holder driver and Mech was George Linton this photo was 66-67 Winter Nats I was there he had Jack covered to the 3/4 mark but the car shut off for some reason. As you can see by the Start the car always ran straight as an Arrow . George later went on to work at Crane Cams as head Dyno Man. 1973 I bought the car did a lot of work to it and ran brackets around Northern Calif 1975 it was sold and that was the end of it. On a local level I did real well with it.

I ran 1968 Winter Nats with my 57 in E/G Butch also switch over that year To E/G . I won my first round against a 55 chevy called Panic Mouse . Next round up was Butch he pulled me in hi gear and it was over. The best thing is I am still hear and I get to tell this story 50 years later.

Hayden Proffitt at Indy in 1961 with one of Mickey Thompson's 421 SD Pontiacs. Interestingly, although the 4 speed trans had been available since 1960 in Pontiacs it did not hold up well behind the 421 SD motor and the M/T team used 3 speed boxes in the main.
