    It's Dyer, not Dryer.

Is the spelling of the J&J roadster driver in this Isky ad correct? Or is it Mike Sorokin, who went on to drive for the Surfers?

I think the spelling is correct, Mike Soskin.
The original J&J Muffler car was owned by Mike Soskin and the muffler shop was located in Inglewood, California. Bones Balogh drove the altered from 1962 through 1964, according to Sparky, then he drove the J&J Muffler Bantam and the J&J Corvette. Bones also drove the ‘40’s Willys coupe for the Mallicote Brothers, which became the J&J Muffler Coupe. Soskin sold the car to Bob Lundsford in Alaska, who renamed it the Alaskan Bear and crashed the car twice and changed the front end. Ken Gentry made an effort to find the car, since after Lundsford owned the car it disappeared from the public eye. Sparky said that a man in Morgan Hill, California owned the car and then sold it to the Rizzo Brothers who raced the car as the Rizzo Brothers altered and also as the Hard Luck Blues car. The Rizzo Brothers sold the car to D.J. O’Neil, who painted the car a purple color and raced it as the Grape Ape. Sparky bought the car from O’Neil in 2006, but didn’t know the history of the car until Ken Gentry told him. Horaczko races the Fuel Altered in the Nostalgia Eliminator class and the car looks as fast and powerful as the day Balogh was the driver during the heyday of fuel altered racing.

    Loudbang -

    Cool.
Not meaning to be a pain, but bad spelling is one thing, messing up someone's name is another.

Don Prudhomme's Shelby's Super Snake entry was named Best Engineered Car at the 1968 Winternationals, an accomplishment he celebrated with Carol Shelby and Mrs. Winternationals.

    James Warren

we look into the file of the driver for the famous Warren-Coburn-Miller Top Fuel team, also known as The Ridge Route Terrors: James Warren. Warren and his Bakersfield-based racing team proved to be one of the best on the West Coast as they made consistent trips to the winner’s circle from 1964 until their retirement in 1980.

In late 1964, Warren, left, and partner Roger Coburn teamed with Chuck Holloway, right, on a 327 Chevy-powered fueler, known as the "Blue Car."

    Warren_01.jpg

In 1967, Warren ran 223 mph at Lions, set a 6.96 record at Irwindale, finished as runner-up at the 32-car invitational Irwindale Grand Prix, and ran the quickest time ever at the opening of Orange County Int’l Raceway with a 6.89. He also advanced to the final at the 1967 U.S. Nationals, where he was defeated by Don Garlits, who broke into the sixes for the first time.

Warren earned his first of two national event wins at the 1968 Winternationals, seizing low e.t. and top speed, 6.86 at 230 mph, in the first round. In that same year, the Warren-Coburn-Miller dragster was one of eight cars invited to compete in a Professional Dragster Association (PDA) three-race series, held at Lions and Carlsbad Raceway one weekend and Sacramento Raceway Park the following week. Warren won the Carlsbad event and placed second overall to Garlits, who won at Lions and Sacramento.

I don't know exactly why, but this altered really does it for me. The thing's just got that knarly, wicked, dangerous, vibe to it. The combination of way fat meats, bag-o-snakes headers, injection, small hoop rollbar and open face helmet, to me says, "We ain't here for the ice cream, we're here to kick some ass."
Thanks for all the good posts Tommy:

I remember the Blown Hearse when it ran at Charstown RI strip. Yes it did run well and sounded just as good.

One question you say your mother washed out your mouth when you were a kid, but now you live in sin city Thailand? Some people learn and some don't I guess?
