Don't have an ID on this TE-440, complete with the original rubber biscuit front end suspension that NHRA banned

Pretty sure this is the Big Wheel Auto Parts gas dragster from Minneapolis, Dragmaster chassis

    Buick powered, no ID

This car evolved, from this unblown setup to an experimental blower setup, and then a more conventional 6-71. I watched as it met its demise at Fontana when it got sideways around half way down the track, spun into the spectator area, destroying the car and damaging several spectator cars. Dick Stewart got a broken ankle, and a spectator was injured, fortunately no more serious damage. I do remember that a spectator tried to take a picture of the remains of the car and got his camera smashed by the crew...

Jack Ewell at Lions, Fuller chassis, photo from around '63-64. The car was originally black, then candy orange, has been either recreated or restored. The body was hammered out by Jimmy Summers, the famous customizer.

Jack Ewell again, after the zoomie headers were added.

Pete Robinson at Lion's. I think that Pete was still running gas in this modified Dragmaster car.

Mine too, hard competition, paved pits (not all were), and great air at night...but driving a fuel car at night was like driving into a dark tunnel, really hard to see between the header flames and the blower...for some reason Lions was harder to see down than Irwindale, etc.......but I loved the place.

Lived in Monrovia, but would tow to Lions because of the beach air. Here's a shot of us trying to get use to Lion's grip.

The Lightningbolts were the Galaxie version of the Thunderbolt - think Ulrey brothers. The car I'm thinking of may not have actually had Ed Martin's name on it. The story I got was that Ford sent the car to Martin and he decided that he had too many race cars already and set a "club" called the Hi-Risers and handed to car over to them to run. One of my friends was part of that group.
