Hey guys, I just got this e-mail from a pal of mine Clyde,.. A old friend of ours Father had a used car lot back in the day,... this picture of this weird custom (looks to be a Studebaker) was just found,... Our old pal Don Brown worked at this used car dealership owned by his Father,.. Don has been into Customs and Hot Rods all his life, and he was a fellow Road Knight. This Custom is weird, "really not my cup of tea"... I have never seen it before,... But it was from Detroit (or so I'm told) Man !,... Is this thing ugly,... but kinda cool in a sick and twisted sort of way. Here is the email I got from Clyde,... Hey guys, This car was photographed in the early 50s at Pappy's used car lot on Livernois in Detroit. Don Brown, a former "Road Knight" worked here in his youth, his dad owned the place! Makes you wonder what happened to this car, it was very strange!! Enjoy! Clyde And for a little bigger look,...
I was talking to a friend about this picture,... And he was right about something,.. He said "Dennis,... We might have seen this thing in the past,... but delited it from our memory banks" Ok,... it's history,... but it proves a few sayings. 1: Just because you can do something,.. don't mean you should,... 2: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder,.... 3: Money don't come with instructions !,........ IMHO
Looks like it is based on a 47 or so Studebacker coupe from the back and front window, some serious body work on this wild thing! Cool as hell !sololobo~
I would fully drive that around and be proud of it if I found it today. The roof proportions throw it off but it's got a cool spaceship-y look to it, I like it. Anyone can shave off a hood ornament and lower a car, a full custom like that takes dedication.
Ive seen this before online. http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/...chet-kelley-dream-cars-of-tomorrow-from-1953/ funny the backs a rip off of harvey earls Le Sabre
i really dig this thing, it would be awesome to see what kind of looks it would get driving it around town
OK,... I guess I'm over ruled here,... Looks like a land shark to me,... But !!!! You guys think it smooth,.... So thats cool,.... It's very cold up here,.. and my Wife said I have been "A ornery ol' goat" all day,... Maybe it will look better to me tomorrow,... But don't hold your breath,..... This is what you need to drive this beauty !
Very interesting vehicle.A couple of observations:Although it may have started out as a Studebaker, the cab section forward looks a bit like a 49-51 Ford.It also appears to have some type of top insert;I wonder if it was glass or plastic? Also the rear window looks to be a modified Stude. If I remember correctly the Stude rear window is sloped a bit more forward.Looks like the body was channeled over the frame but the steering column left in the stock position. The fenders definitely do not look like some backyard creation and if they were a very skilled metal worker made them. The compound curves bear this out. The back looks a bit like the Buick LeSabre show car or possibly the XP-400.It may have been a creation of someone who worked at one of the styling studios.I would really like to know the history of it and if it still exists.
too bad they did not chop the roof a little to go with the flow.....looks like it went over seas with that plate in the second pic
This was supposed to be a production car? Look in the pics at how low it is compared to the car behind it. I'd drive the hell out of it. Especially to a NSRA show. Wonder what it'd bring at B-J?
Is that the used car lot that still has the Studebaker convertable on the roof of the building? If so we use the live just down the street
Don't remember the car but I do remember Livernois. First place everyone looked when they were looking for a used car back then. Area is a war zone now. Anyone remember the name of the used car lot that advertised on TV during the early AM hours?
