first thing you need to do is find a bullet tail light that fits your tach, that is probably going to be the hardest part. I didn't think of this idea until I saw the tail light at a swap meet. I think I may have had to trim the front edge on this one to make things work right. then you need to work building elevators for a couple years and bring home all sorts of little extra parts like the bracket shown below... I suppose you could bend your own from flat stock, but then it would not be cad plated. the rest is kind of self explanatory. drill 3 holes in the bracket, gather up some hardware, a stainless allen head and drill a hole in the back of the tail light, it is kind of countersunk as well. ..then put it all together like you knew what you are doing all along. my dash is curvy on top, so I mounted it directly to the dash. you may want to use a spacer of some sort.
this is what I call found metal engineering. I'm standing there with the tach in one hand and the taillight in the other looking at a pile of misc metal and this bracket is sitting there almost perfect. I didn't have to do much thinking.
Could you mount it with lamp pipe to pass the wiring thru. I'd weld a nut on one side to make a bolt. If you've ever mounted a ceiling fan you've seen this stuff. Different diameter is available to keep you dash hole size under control
