History Concept Cars-what happened to them?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Groucho, Jul 23, 2015.

  1. My boss owns a Pontiac concept vehicle.
He bought it at an auction several years ago.
It cant be registered. GM sold it on a salvage title and it contains an extra prefix in the serial number. It contains and X at the end spot which chucks it out of the DMV computer system.
It's painted in a one off pearl orange, has special one off alloy wheels with the Pontiac logo in the centers, and other minor styling exercises tossed into the mix.
Fit, finish, and build quality are extraordinary. Far superior to what GM used to pound out on their assembly lines.

  2. I read an article on this 25 years ago by Leon Dixon, a freelance writer in CA in Special Interest Autos. He bumped into it on the street being driven by some young guy, using it as a daily driver! Seems like the interior was baby calf hide to keep with the western theme. At the time it probably was not worth much.

Billy Gibbons of Z Z Top has one of these. I don't recall who built it for him. Yes, Ford should have built this. It really looks like it belongs.

I have already commented once on this car, but it bears repeating. It does look factory, it is so USEFUL, and my accountant says no, you can't afford it. Want to trade a '40 Ford 2-dr from Texas for your old El Camino ? ?

That's pretty nice, kind of a Deora knockoff. Was it built by Ford, or independently?

The big problem with that '73 Ford SUV is, it's too much like the VW vans and early
Econoline trucks, the drivers were the first ones to arrive at an accident .

I Stumbled on a car in a Tucson junkyard about 15 years ago. It had a badge that read La Salle. It looked much like a Motorama car... and was well thrashed...It had a fiberglass hood and had at one time been painted red. It was very similar to the 1955 la Salle. Is there a chance they could've made 2?

Most of the late 40’s and early 50’s were huge.... especially the FOMOCO’s. The “C” pillar of the 55 Chevrolet ended up on the 58 Impala.. good choice.

I saw this a few years ago in an undisclosed warehouse in the Midwest. A private collection that included some real interesting vehicles.
