Your PU has more of a center mount vibe as mine is a side job.
You might as well move the lights in too and wrap the nerf bar around them.

Not sure what the nerf is going to look like yet. Was thinking of just a single bar with bends to go under the plate. I have just enough stainless for this.

I like the placement of the lights at this point. They look kinda weird mounted directly off the box supports sticking out the back. That may change once the tailgate chains and brackets are on. Or I could mount them under the corners for a lower look.

I vote for the centre as well, its coming along nicely. Focus on the finish, not the negativity.

 

I have to agree with center mount.

 

No worries. Only one guy being negative and he is a goof. The ignore feature works very well.

Nice job! It's nice to be able to enjoy the hobby on the cheap side. This has inspired me to to a thread on my Cheap ass A. Something I built for TROG but have been enjoying it in other places.

It has always irked me that guys beak about how much cars cost. Hot rods are about fun, friends. Not chequebooks and lawn chairs.

 

Just read this whole thing, really great job man. By the way, I must be the only guy who likes side mounted license plate !

Found this build thread through that cover story and glad for it. Congrats on building a real rod with ingenuity, skill, spare parts and grit. The way it was originally done. I can walk right past the typical high dollar cars and stop and spend an hour looking at the engineering in one like yours. Looking forward to following this to your completion.

 

Finished floor boards and worked on cab wood strip.

Great Job! We have to be cheap up here our dollar sucks and most of the good parts come from the States! Even our hot rod vendors order their stuff from down south and then charge their mark up! Keep up the good work!

 

Got my tailgate hinges finished and a rough polish job on them. They need a lot more sanding before polish but the romance of sanding steel mill marks out of 316 stainless is pretty low.

 

Great looking truck. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do next. I'd guess it's about time for the chop.

Will you use sheet metal for a drive shaft tunnel?

 

Yes the trans tunnel will need to be sheetmetal due to the complex shape of the trans. I want to retain as much foot room as possible.

And I don't think I will end up chopping the truck. I am physically to big to drive it comfortably with the seat and a stick shift.

 

A lot of work that doesn't look like much. Got firewall all trimmed up around the back of the engine and got the cab bolted down. Fitted the starter push rod and got it functional. Going to try and fit the doors up and square the cowl this week if I get time.

 

Glad you are using the original starter. Sometimes you will find yourself doing some fancy foot work gas, clutch, brake , and starter with only two feet. It'll make it harder to steal.

 

My M37 had the foot start as well. It certainly is an anti theft device. And yes starting on a hill can be interesting.

 

With our M37 I found that the parking brake was a big help as an extra foot. The small external contracting thing also works as a wonderful smoke generator when you forget it's set and drive away.

 

Yup. Park brake, clutch,shifter,ignition key,gas pedal, foot brake, starter.

Do it fast enough and you resemble an octopus having a spaz attack in the cab! Lol

 

And in my '53 Chevy pickup there's the choke and hand throttle. Guys with key starters and auto transmissions don't know what they are missing, or maybe they do?
