    Hello All,

Happy Holidays. I picked up this little tool kit in an old leather satchel and was wondering if anybody could identify it. All of the wrenches are about 4 inches long and a couple of them have an odd bend in them. Nothing bigger than about 7/16 ( metric maybe?) and have markings on them of
    Eisemann Remy-Wagner
    Delco bosch-Simms R.B - S.E.V
    NEast Conn Splitdorf
Also has a feeler guage, a tweaker screwdriver & a spark plug guage. Nothing in the kit is over 4 inches long.
I know that Splitdorf made magnetos for Indian bikes & Pratt-Whitney airplane engines in the 20s & 30s but this looks way too small to be a motorcycle tool kit. Any ideas ?

    Thanks,

    Steve

Yeah splitdorf made mags for all kinds of real early motorcycles, but they were only used on american Singles, V twins and some Four Cylinders.

We have a Wright J5 whirlwind 9 cylinder airplane engine with a splitdorf mag on it, and it has a small tool kit, similar to that one only less tools.

By the looks of the names, it looks like a set of specifically designed tools for working on those brands of magnitos. That would explain the feelers gauge as well as the size and odd shape of some of the wrenches. Each real realy mag was a little different and they liked to make it so you needed special tools to work on theirs. Kind of like cars today.

Awesome find, hope my info helps. How much did you get it for?

Thanks for the response guys. Jonny, I figured it was some kind of speciality tool kit. It was advertised on EBay as an old 40's car tool kit but I didnt think any car in the 40's would have had a little kit like that. I got it for the grand sum of $6.00.

    Thanks,

    Steve

  5. Yup, all the names you listed are electrical component and magneto manufacturers, so I'd also figure it's some kind of specialist auto electrician's toolkit.

For 6 bux an excellent purchase. Congrats.

  6. Yea, that kit came with a 43 Edsel Alley Ostrich, they were produced in the North of Ireland on the German border, at the foot of the Alps for a year 'n' a half. [IMG] [IMG]

I'm probably way off base but it looks like the kit that came with most European imports. Way back when 'til the japs started doin' it.
Are there any markings on the bag?
Did ya say ya gave 6 bucks for 'em? Can't go wrong at that price.
