So why does Ivo's FEFWDFED have only fourteen exhaust pipes in the center?

I have a line on 4 or 5 nailheads I'm trying to buy. I don't know why because I HAVE way TOO MANY PROJECTS. However the 1 that has sparked my interest is a '65 2dr Wildcat with a 4bbl carb. By what I read this would be a 425 nailhead with the desired tranny or is it a 401???

Anybody counting would notice that there are only 14 instead of 16 tubes in the central bank of headers. That caused a lot of head scratching but the reason was simple. Tommy wanted the headers to align with the roll cage and to make it look right two headers dipped down between the blocks and dumped beneath the car.

    An article worth looking at.

If its a 65 401 the first characters of the engine number on the front of the block will start with LR or LT. If its a 425 it will be a LW or LX. LX being a 2x4 motor. Lots of 2x4 motors had their intakes and carbs swapped out for single 4's back in the day when their owner got tired of tinkering with them so its not uncommon to find a LX motor with a single 4 bbl carb. 65 will have the good SP400 trans.

EJ Potter was WILD! He has been dubbed "The mad man from Michigan."
I remember seeing him in 67 or 68 at Union Grove Wis. He had a car he called the "Voltswagen".
It was a Volkswagen "bug" with a larger rear axle and big drag slicks. (no rear fenders). Residing in the backseat was a HUGE electric motor. There was just room enough for EJ to squeeze in there with it.
A big pair of heavy copper cables were stretched the length of the quarter mile. They were hooked up to the bottom of the V-W with big loops. They were connected to a very large Diesel generator.
When EJ got ready to make his run, his assistant would rev up the big Diesel to it's max RPM.
When EJ hit the switch the Diesel would drag way down and smoke like hell. The V-W would take off like a shot. Burning rubber the entire length of the quarter mile.
When he got to the end of the wires at the end of the quarter mile of course there was no more power, He would deploy a drag chute to slow the car down and stop it with brakes. I believe a pickup truck pushed him down the return road to the pits.
