After searching for some safety glasses and coming up empty handed i decide to go ahead and start grinding the bed bolts out of my truck anyway. Sure enough i got a spec of metal in my eye and it hurts like hell. I tried brushing it out with a Q-tip, and flushing it out with warm water, but so far no luck. I want to have it removed before a rust ring forms. Any advice?? should i just head to the hospital tomarro?

Sometimes running a magnet over your eye will get it out. Make sure it's clean.

Go straight to a minor emergency clinic! For what you are saving the price is cheap. Otherwise you risk permanent damage, and cloudy vision for the rest of your life.

Either call your local eye doctor and get in thier asap, or just go to the hospital!
Just get to one or the other soon, don't wait!
After dealing with it myself, i'd head to the hospital.

Run, do not walk to the nearest emergency room. When metal gets into the eye, it immediately starts to rust. The hospital will use an electro magnetic to remove the particles. Do not rub or try to get it out yourself. You run the risk of scratching the cornea. Been there, done that.......

i heard metal in the eye is like getting stung by a jellyfish, you have to have someone pee in your eye to get it out.....

Go to the hospital dummy, never risk anything when it comes to your eyes.

No kidding. Go to the emergency room. Metal shavings are like tiny fish hooks in your eye. Don't try digging it out yourself.

I go to the eye doctor when it happens to me. They are great. I seem to have the worst luck with my eyes. I am religious about wearing safety glasses, and have gotten stuff in my eye 3-4 times that had to be removed. I have friends that never wear them and have never had anything in their eyes...

Exactly...and IF you wait too long they won't use a magnet, they will use a pick to remove it as it embeds itself..been there done that myself..
Although it didn't hurt, it was EXTREMELY uncomfortable.
Just head out and get it taken care of......

Eye protection has become a major issue with me now because of that incident.....i HAD safety glasses on, the metal went under them. I now wear goggles while grinding.

If you wait too long then they will use the needle of a syringe to remove it, then use a little miniture grinder like thing to remove the contamination that the sliver left. You better hope your Doctor hasn't been out partying and doesn't have the shakes.

Can you see the piece of metal? If you can see it, wet a q-tip and have someone lightly drag it across the spot. A lot of times the piece will stick to the q-tip you will see it on the q-tip if it comes out.

This will work a lot of times if the piece is not to deep. Might be able to do it youself but it's pretty hard to stick something to your own eye.

Otherwise go to the doctor tomorrow and let them get it out.

I did that not once but twice, both times wearing safety glasses and the metal snuck up underneeth. The last time it happen on a Friday night and I had to wait untill Monday when the eye doctor opened, it had rusted, they drilled it out and it left a little crater in my eye ball. Now I wear swimming goggles, looks stupid but nothing get in.

What I did was shine a flashlight into a mirror and bounce the light back off of my eye. Then pulled a match from a book of matches, and spit on it a little bit. Shinning a light in the mirror to my eye allowed me to see the metal better than shinning the light directly into my eye. I then lightly raked it out. Oh, that was after i was sent home from the doctor on a Sunday because the eye specialist was not there, and the doctor that was there was way to freaked out to even find the piece of metal.

The same thing happened to me. I woke up the next day and couldn't see out of my eye. Had to have emergency eye surgery later that day so I wouldn't lose it. Go to the hospital right freaking now. Good luck. (Also, enjoy watching the drill bit as it digs into your eyeball. Good times...)

Yep, I did the same thing a few months ago. Went to Urgent care center to have them use a rotary file to grind out the metal (fun shit) and then a follow up with the ophthalmologist to see if the rust stain needed to be ground out. I got lucky, could have been much much worse! Go now to your nearest Urgent care facility or the metal will leave a bad rust stain in your eye.

had a piece of steel go into my eye while cutting some pipe . i thought i had got it out but xmas i couldn't open my eyes. after 2 hours i was finaslly able to open them enough to see so i went to the emergency room. they had to call in a specilist for me to see and 4 hours later it was out. spent 4 weeks with a patch over my eye and a weeks worth of 2x a day doctor visit s to change the dressing. over nite the metal formed a ring of rust which made it worse. as soon as you read this you should go to the emergency room

id really rather not go to the ER right now, its almost 8:30 and it sounds like it would be better to wait it out until tomarrow to see a eye doctor. from what you have all been telling me it wounds like the ER wont do much good and will cost me alot more $$$
