it doesnt have to be "black" , hot rod flatz has lots of color's . i used flatz pearl burgendy on the body & flatz metalic black on the fenders . very slight pearl & very fine metallic . great paint as it doesnt oxidize or retain moisture as primer does ..... steve

What's wrong with the way it looks now... :) Oh natural.

As they said white or a light color plays with the eye and will hide a lot. A light color primer is a good idea and if you get any chips from the gravel road you can touch it up easy.

Probably Fleet White that most delivery trucks are painted. Maybe two tone it so that the color on the upper part draws your eyes away from the lower part.

A great man once said: "As long as it's in Primer, it has potential.....once it's painted, then it's finished."

    That's simple WHITE

Everytime I see a car painted white I start looking really close.

Don't get me wrong I like some cars painted white but others look like a big washer or dryer and that's not cool.

There are so many great colors to use that sometimes when I see someone spend years building their dream hot rod and then they paint some really bad color it just kills the whole thing.

put on a single stage in any color and shoot it heavy enough that you get some runs and orange peel. people will see the crappy paint job and not the poor body work.

DO NOT add a stripe to bad bodywork. A straight line over a wavey body follows the body surface and just calls more attention to the flaw.

I always thought cars with bad body work were friendly cars, because they wave at you as they go by.

I am probably going to get a ration of shit for saying this but my experience is that white will show poor body work almost as bad as black. How do I know? I had a white car with shitty body work. Tan is a good color or suede.

Light gray primer. Plus it's easy to touch up.

I am also of the camp that white is not the best choice. It won't show dirt, but I've seen bad body work on white a mile away.

My personal choice would be tan or almond or an appliance beige like older computer cases were painted. My first choice would be almond.

Oh, by the way, since you are going cheap. You can get cans of this in a particular, much hated, brand at the local Lowes Hardware or Home Depot for a couple of bucks. The vette wasn't painted in it, I'm sure, but since you just want to make it a solid color...

Another almond from another thread. Notice how not noticeable the rust and well worn paint looks?

Primer, flattened color, anything with a ton of peel.....If the body work really botheres you I'd go with the primer and start fixing each panel as time permits..fix a wiggle or two rattle can to cover....go drive for a while.......fix another panel...rattle can over the work....drive.....repeat until your happy with the body, then paint it any color you want

I don't have a pic but there was a 48' Chevy running around Detroit years ago painted with orange bed liner crap. I think that you could of grafted an elcamino front clip and never of noticed. It was like a bad accident, you couldn't look away.
