I imagine that the French (well, Citroen and Panhard, anyway) must enjoy dancing to their own unique drummer.

That's probably why Citroen killed Panhard : so they could be the only weirdoes over here.

I like it, but the 3rd head light is kinda odd.

  5. Staring at me, and working on it all day, does not the forward-control pickups of the early 60's count as weird?? Like the one to the left??

NO! You've just been breathing too many paint fumes!

  7. Citroen BOUGHT Panhard. Probably because they were worried that they might be out-weirded.

And if you ever get a chance to drive a Cit, make it a priority. They might be weird, but their engineers DID know how to make a car drive nicely. If a little otherworldly...

  10. I'd like to have the opportunity, but haven't so far. :( Have a friend who owns two Citroen SMs, but the Maserati engines, and more, are missing from them. o_O

I do on a almost daily basis drive Citroen ID/DS (with mechanical or hydro box) and Panhard Dyna X/Z/PL because for the last 6 years that's what I've been restoring for my boss. I didn't get a chance to try his SM Chapron convertible yet.
DB's are awesome with their flat twin air cooled 850cc Panhard engine, they can go almost all day 100mph at 6000 rpm.

The bodies were styled by French pastry chefs.

Not pastry chefs; poissonniers. A French car isn't properly French unless it bears at least a vague resemblance to a fish.

Anything designed by Virgil Exner fits in this thread:D

And worth every penny! It seems to show up regularly at a local engine and tractor show. At least I assume it's the same one shown in the other post.

Great thread… I am very surprised that the “Assless" Gremlin was not chosen for its unusual approach to automotive design.

The Gremlin was a more blatant - some might say more ham-fisted - iteration of the approach employed by Studebaker for the Lark. That is, lopping the gratuitously superfluous 18" off both ends of a conventional American automobile. The thing is, though, that the remainder was as conventional as the 36" lopped off :)

The car in the foreground is Way cooler then the one in the background!!

At it aint all bad. I dig it!

I found this on another threat; ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1416675560.808631.jpg

This is so weird, and so cool it makes my pants fit funny.

Thirtytwo posted in the beetledeuce threat.

Claims alu block, home maid. Triumph heads, and barrels.

I also see two 97, something that looks like a early flathead distributor coil adapter/crossbread magnito and generaly bad ass.
I see a guy lower left, I think I should remember.
I see a Midget car lower right.

And then I passes out, from the blood from my head ran to my privat parts. :D

  28. Those heads are 3T heads, from a *just* post-war model of Triumph sized at 350cc. Bore was 55mm stock, though I'm not positive those are Triumph jugs (not positive they aren't, either).

A lot of work, and a cool engine for sure!!
