I have often thought that if I ever bought a 58 Chev wagon, I would try to find a wrecked 58 Impala and switch the 6 tail lights and wider rear fins. Has anyone ever done this? If so please post pictures.
The width of the tail gate presents a problem with the tail light array unless one incorporates the tail lights into the gate. As I recall, all '58 Chev wagons have on one tail light for that reason. The side scoop is all that would remain to identify an Impala over a Bel Air trim level (don't know that wagons were referred to as Bel Airs, but the trim was used). I suppose one could but the roof vent/scoop on the top of the tail gate. Ray
In my vision I was thinking of putting 2 tail lights on each side of the tailgate. Using the cut off portion of the Impala with the lights and welding it onto the tailgate, with the chrome trim that ran on the edge.
looks like it would take a skilled body man, but like anything else, it could be done. You might find that the light spacing is not going to work like you planned. of course my question is, did you look at pictures before you asked?
As you can see, he had the rear doors made into a one piece door. He found some Impala rear quarters in the States, and had em shipped down.
Really like that 2-door with the swept post. Really neat work there. Here's another. http://www.xframechevy.com/1958-nomad-wagon-custom/
