I was shocked to read this, Louie. Sorry for you loss, as well as mine.
Ray's old best friend Frank Dutra and Ray's brother entered the roadster in the Oakland Roadster Show right after its debut in Sacramento, when Ray was in the Air Force.
Frank introduced me to Ray, at long last, in Merced, 1995...
I saw the roadster up close in 1956, on Beach St. in Santa Cruz...looked it over closely, it was every bit as handsome as it had appeared on the cover of HRM.
My Mom and I were in her Caddy, going home to Santa Clara, Ray passed us slowly on H'wy 17... The car was a picture in motion, graceful as could be.
    Godspeed, Ray...

Thanks Mike...yup he will definitely be missed. Its like he saw something with what they were doing with the roadsters at Bonneville that nobody even considered for the street. Thats some big time insight and assimilation for a 14 year old.... The more I look at the pictures and now seeing this thing bloom in my own garage, the more I am in awe of its elegance and form (and I know mine does not have near the elegance his did, I freely admit that).

    "Bonneville Styling" in spades....

The appreciation for this I am certain will not be lost on the membership here....but when it comes time for your family to remember your life, to prepare your final send off and from, I am sure, many many photos.........your children choose this, and only this photo as your representation......

    What an awe inspiring moment...

  7. My heartfelt sympathies to you and your family in this difficult time. I can't imagine how you're feeling right now but I think your uncle would be happy that you're continuing with the build. Once again my heartfelt sympathies to you and your family.

Braved the cold garage and built a new mount for the vintage cast aluminum column drop. Also spliced in the Ford Steering shaft to the 34 Chevy steering box. Diagonal brace yet to be added and then a bit of paint. Also had the headers sandblasted and now they are ready for a bit of paint.

All painted up, and column mount is done. Next up, final assembly of the steering box and painting it.

Hell of a shot with the stream of light behind the headers.

Chip, chip, chipping away.... Painted the grill insert. Ran the battery cables, and installed the dash. It's beginning to awaken, and even started.
