Sam Foose went on to open Project Design and also is the father of Chip Foose. The treatment on the 42 is subtle and I like everything about her.I especially like the tail, not to diminish her side profile, and I like the fact that nothing too dated was done with the interior.

I think that is the shortest story i've read on the JJ, but that was a stunner car! I like it a lot! Also like sam's work.

    Is the car still around?

It's not always apparent, but the Hirohata Merc actually has a V-butted windshield!

Had a 42 long door Coupe for a while, but it sure didn't look like this! I believe they were available for a few months before the US entered the war with some of them sold with blackout trim. This thing is a great example of what a few mods can do to really improve a car! The redo of the grille and the surround is what sets this apart from the rest, very distinctive. Thanks

    Nice classic !

  14. I'm wondering if this was the first V-butted windshield. Not knowing when the Hirohata Merc was built. I've done a lot of those V-butts back in the Autoglass days.

The Hirohata Merc was finished at the beginning of 1952 (practically a new car).

Frank Sonzogni's and Dave Bugarin's Mercs, as well as Tom Hocker's '40 Ford, were among the Barris-built cars with Vee-butted windshields that were to follow.

I don't know how much will apply, but eric54chevy has a nice thread on building a 1941 Merc, including details on lowering. You can check it out HERE: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/tale-of-my-two-1941-mercs.966151/page-5

42's were available until early spring of 1942, then all production was redirected toward the war effort. 46's were mostly 42's with some slight changes, grills, maybe tail lights, etc.
