As a follow up to Ryan's great post from yesterday, I found myself pouring over color footage of cars in motion from the mid to late 1950s. I landed on this fun clip of Los Angeles streets from around 1953 (notice the new Ford's on the transport truc...

To read the rest of this blog entry from The Jalopy Journal, click here.
Quite a bustling metropolis back in the day. I can't believe all the traffic on what was then a fairly new highway system back in 1954. No wonder it's such a cluster fuck out there now!!
What an awesome clip! I'm still pissed off that I was born into the shittiest generation possible. I'm nostalgic for an era that existed 50 years before I was cognizant that it ever happened...
Having never lived during that era, I tend to take for granted that our hot rods and customs were everyday sources of transportation. Great clips!
Thanks - great stuff - oh, all of that real steel - replace that freeway video with one of today and have same jammed up roadways with crappy drivers cutting other drivers off.
Jive-Bomber, I enjoyed that, thanks for posting. I only wish it was longer. Great time live in Los Angles. Booming economy & look at that sunshine!
What Ford Plant? All I saw was the Chevrolet Plant. All teasing aside, those old movies are always fun to watch. A time capsule.
cutting drivers off? Did yo see the guy on the off ramp passing the other guy on the shoulder near the end of the clip.. Happened then too. hehe. Somethings never change, it just didn't start lately.
Did Google Earth last night looking for the oil derricks in back of the truckload of Fords, didn't see any, wonder if they are now gone, saw a couple of stripper wells...remember when Signal Hill was covered with derricks.
My grandpa drove his 1947 Ford 2-door until 1961 when he bought a new Full-sized Fairlane 2-door. Optioned just like the 1948, a V8 and radio! Instead of foreign cars we had Kiaser, studebaker, nash, neat cars each one. Thanks for the memories....
Love the shot of the cashier at a grocery store - no scanners or debit card machine in sight, and a big old manual cash register. Also, note the lack of parking meters anywhere. Thanks.
I noticed the girl punching the till at the supermarket - and noted the cheap prices of the items she was ringing up
I believe this vid has been on TJJ before, but I always enjoy it.Did you notice most of the women are thin?
