I believe NHRA [NoHotRodsAllowed] outlawed the use of the front [ahead of grill/bumper] tanks years ago!! Many people still have them mounted, but for looks only!! ROY.

Car was done by Gene Winfield as part of the "Custom Car Caravan" Ford did sometime in the 60's. They toured numerous one off cars around the country done by some of the "hot" customizers at the time.
(Alexander Brothers, George Barris, Clarkaiser, Bill Cushenbery, Dearborn Steel Tubing, Fostoria Customs, Dean Jeffries, and Gene Winfield.)

Roy, yeah you aren't kidding it's a shame. Although, I recently saw that Winfield recreated the econoline Pacifica that he did back then. I thought that was cool for him to do.

Myron;I understand some styling cars were saved and restored and some have been recreated!! I would think the really exotic stuff would be hard [expensive] to recreate!! ROY.

    Long time no post!
I ended up acquiring another picture of this Comet over the weekend. Some gentleman in WV took this picture when he was a kid with his sisters camera. He remembered how it was a treat seeing the Christian Bros bring out the AFX Comet to the drag strip. Hell, that'd be nice NOW, much less the freakin' 60's!
Anyways, here you all go - you can see this was in between or before lettering.

Im still looking for this comet!!!! :)

  20. That is a badass shot of the 65' Chrisman car! My dad is talking about bringing it to Bowling Green next year to celebrate 50 years. Hard to believe he has had that car since 1983.

Yea I'm done for this year too...
I ended up putting the Jerico back in the car for the last race at Thompson, CHUNKED 2nd gear again in the Nash, I think I'm going to have it FACE-PLATED... I'm going to work on the front end, change the spring perches and new adjustable shocks... What kind of shocks do you run???

No pictures, but some great memories. SRCA Great Bend Kansas raced there in the mid 60's. No timing lights just the flagman, cars were put in classes, weight and cubic inch. Those were the good old days of drag racing, heads up no fancy electronics.

Scott;I run 90X10 Competition Engineering front shocks for a 67 ish GM car using an eye on the bottom.I fabbed mounting tabs onto my roller bearing spring perches to mount the eye using a bolt. This frees up the front end!

I also used the Competition Engineering 90/10's but I switched a couple years ago to the Calvert 90-10's. The Calvert's are really loose on extension if that is what you are looking for? I also use the Camaro style trick I learned from Roy along with the roller bearing perches. Brian
