Those turned out well! I saw a blip on TV about a new fangled car that you just run your fingers along the body line and the door pops open... That would be neat technology to have! It was some European rig...

Took the roof off the 'bird as I need to do a little work at the back light, and iron out a little ding at the front caused by the wind catching it and tipping it over leaning up against a tree outside. (Don't ask). I like it better both ways!

The drivers side of the Thunderbird is DONE! A couple hours of work to do on the right side fenderskirt and headlight opening and it's time to lay some primer on it. Finally!

  6. Having spent the day sanding filler on my project I can appreciate your excitement. :) Hang in there!!

Just caught up on your project. Removing the door handles and shortening the tonneau makes your car look longer and more sleek I think. So when are you gonna shoot some color? Summer is around the corner!:D

  11. Wow, getting close to having the 'bird in one colour! Looking forward to seeing it. Of course you'll need at least ONE more spray bomb. :D

I'll bet you guys thought I'd given up, or started another project, right? Well, kind of the latter, but I'm focused the T'Bird again! Spent yesterday and today finishing up the bodywork, and I hope to shoot primer tomorrow. :). Here's where we are today... I'd like to have it at the Riot too. But... Paint store guy boxed up acrylic laquer primer instead of 2K, so I had to return that and get the 2K and something else. Then a stop at the U-Pick yard where I bought a rear axle for my dually (it's got a narrow commercial rear end with 4.56's, the "new" one is a regular dually pickup rear with 3.73's), so that took a couple hours, then mowed the lawn, then I worked yesterday at my real job, now it's the 4th of July, so... ;-)

Ding ding ding! Yup, found it right here on the HAMB classifieds, drove the Diamond T 1600 miles (round trip) to bring it home from CT! I'm excited! Older glass (looks like a very early Gibbons) body, new frame needing finishing, ALL the bits aside from engine and trans to make it a roller. It's an east coast car, was featured in Street Rodder in '83, still has the original lettering "Flying Flathead" on the tail pan, and original maroon paint under a swap-meet special coat of black primer. I have a dual quad 350 for it on the shop floor (unless I come up with something cool for cheap).

My wife said the same thing, and gave her blessing on the buy after I sold her '48 Pontiac convert...

Finally! Two double wet coats of 2K primer on the T'bird! I'll bet you guys thought I'd given up ;-). Now, blocking, spot glaze, blocking, priming again, re-blocking...

Glad to see you're still chipping away on yours. It took forever to block out mine...I dont envy you right now, but isnt it nice to see it all in one colour/shade?

Love this car. I can't wait to see the end result.

I'm guessing you are tired of people giving paint advice, but I cannot resist throwing in my two cents. Not so much on the color, but the overall idea.

For all the major changes, the car has an appealing subtlety to the look. I think it needs paint that enhances that fact. My training is in industrial design, and a very successful designer turned instructor ingrained in me his mantra that good design doesn't smack you in the face, but draws you in, and makes you want to explore the design.

In that vein, I think this is a car that would have its interest overpowered by a two tone, yet become washed out by a mono-tone. I'm thinking pick a sibtle color, then darken that same color (and maybe play with flake/pearl intensity) and use it to "shadow" some of the more interesting or defining lines in the design. Not so intense that they jump out, but enough to catch you curiosity.

Now start blocking, we're all waiting!!
