Its taken 13 months but worth it. What started out as "Hey, this car needs a blower" ended with boxing the frame, 4 link in the rear, new trans to handle the motor, disk breaks to stop the beast, new floor, 6 pt cage and a few thousands more for all the small stuff but she is back on the road. I will drive her for a few months like this to dial everything in.
I have always been a Ford guy and really don't care much for any Chevy body style or engine. I have run Chevy engines in my B/A in the 60s, then switched to a Ford. But I do have to say that my favorite car of all times and the one I would most love to own is the 55 Chevy. I grew up watching these gassers and fell in love with them. I also like the 56s, but not the 57s and on up. You have a nice looking car there and looks just like the car of my dreams!
Thanks for the kind words. I have wanted a 55 gasser since childhood and with lots of help from friends and a gear head girlfriend it all came together.
That thing looks like it's ready to kick ass. What exactly do you mean when you say you boxed the frame on a tri 5? All the ones I've seen were factory boxed.
Sorry, should have said that we added support to the frame. I will post a picture. The stock frame was weak and flexed way too much. The motor would have just twisted it after a hard launch
The motor is a 454 b-bolt main a block with a Mooney -ham blower, two Holley 750 carbs. The motor is detuned for the street, guessing 13-15% under-driven. I did not build the motor.
Great looking 55 and I have a soft spot for the gasser's It got that classic gasser look to it. Great job. Jimbo
I see three pics the same but curious as to trans yoke..Is it a bolt together with u-bolts and whats is it from?
