I found this video randomly on YouTube. The premise is charming and simple - a group of kids hop on their bikes and go to the drag races for the day. One of them was thoughtful enough to bring along his Super 8. What he captures is a glimpse into typ...

To read the rest of this blog entry from The Jalopy Journal, click here.
....Ya .....remember racing my 55 Chevy on the track(guys flaging the start)Boy,,,,,where did the last fifty years go........Ryan....thanks for the thread......made my day......Big Bad John
Great trip back in time! You'll also notice that someone remembered to bring a tire pump and a patch kit! I wonder how many bikers today could fix a flat on the road?
Wow...that was cool...I agree a simpler time and I too could watch those all day long...thanks for the post Ryan
Gotta be easterly, what with trees and stuff you guys in Mexico don't have...anybody with sharp eyes/better computer able to read the plates?? If we had a state someone would for sure ID the swoopy rollercoaster of a strip.
Pretty neat old film I wanna believe that it was shot in and around Cincinnati but that would just be a wild guess. .
Man, ya gotta love it, the big dip in the track is a riot. Some great fed's, wonderful stuff bro, really dig it. ~sololobo~
Neat film Ryan! The opening scene's hangar looks to say "Sumner City Timing Association? The first word is tough to make out the first three letters. Definately looks to be a small, possibly private airport. Possibly Sumner, WA.? The zoom of the downtown skyline near the end of the film might be recognizeable to someone? The newest push truck looks to be a 1960 Chevy pickup, so I'm guessing the film is very early 60's?
Ryan - Cool vintage video footage! ... thanks for sharing! The flat tire scene on the side of the road reminded me of the time when the family Oldsmobile got a flat heading home from the Christmas tree lot ... Dad: Dadgummit! Blow out! [on the highway, when a tire goes flat] Dad: Ah ha! [excitedly gets out of the car] Mom: Not again. Dad: Four minutes. Time me. Me: Actually the Old Man loved it. He had always pictured himself in the pits of the Indianapolis Speedway in the 500. My old man's spare tires were actually only tires in the academic sense. They were round, they had once been made of rubber. ... and then my mother suggested that I get out and "help" the Old Man change the tire:
I like the home made rail getting pushed by the Red Ranchero about about the 1:20ish mark. Reminds me of the Cotton Chopper drag car built by one of the racing clubs here in town in the 50s. I think it was in HRD or one of those a while back. If that track is in WA theres a good chance that could be the Cotton Chopper. Ryans got it figured out when it comes to posting the videos. Thanks for the chance to share that piece of history.
Note the first frame of the video... "Quaker City Timing Association" At least, I believe it says that... And if that's the case, this was shot in Ohio.
interesting,, the film gave me a "WKRP in Cincinnati" feel when I watched it. The shots from the bridge, as well as the bridge itself look familiar Salem Ohio is a fair distance from Cincinnati but who's to say the film was shot all in the same place or city or all on the same day? .
That 3 window is awesome !!!! It almost had a West coast look to it ??? not channeled or sectioned like the builders were doing back East ?
i shot that on 8 mm film in 1961 drags are salem ohio and the bridge is pittsburgh pa. we were on our way back. i'm standing at the railing with my wife. i was a member of the keystone dragons hot rod club.
