build this one for a customer.

ill let him chime in on the back ground story of the car, but it is in really solid shape, and im supper excited to get this car going for him.

    quick run down, goals.
mm2 ,9", air bags, sbc, 350 trans, ac, chop, mild body modifications, custom paint and interior. something that can be driven hard, handle well, and be comfortable.

    sweet memories.

pulled the axles, for re drilling from 5.5 to the more common 4.5 and to check out the ring and pinion. looks like we had some moisture in the drivers side. all looks good. 3.25 ratio, will be ok with the turbo 350 tranny.
housing will be blasted with frame.

got the body pulled of the frame and the frame stripped of all suspension, wires, lines etc. ready for blaster

car has a previously installed street rod engineering mm2 front stub. i will clean this up and finish the install.

    floors and rockers look solid.

Got this car from my Dad, he has owned 31 years, he had a new 1950 and after a finder bender put it all in primer with some mild customizing, this were he got the sweet memories that was painted on in the early 80's. He is now 83 and wants to see the car finished so here we go with the build.

Always wanted to do a Merc. Just never ran across one here on Maui. Or anywhere in Hawaii for that matter. Did find two 4 doors down in South Maui many years ago, but they were half rotted down into the ground, The frames were gone. Did not want to take that on. So I live vicariously watching threads like this one. That frame cleaned up nice, and the body is a perfect starting point. I will very much enjoy watching this thread.
    Aloha,

    little update...

got some wheels and tires in today. ordered them from coker while at hershey swap.
    15x6 chrome smoothies, 205 75 15 2 3/8" wide whites.

started the rear link bars. i make these out of 2x2 1/4 box tubing. use a machined threaded insert that gets plug welded and finish welded into the tubing. 1 1/8" threaded rod end with urethane bushings.

spent some time on the front end stub that was previously installed.
cleaned it up and added some fish plates to the inner rails.
fixed up some holes in the x members that where added some time ago id imagine with a torch and axe.
    boxed the main rails.
