Thanks to all for posting this video. I was not aware Craig ever ran a 1/4 in that car but he had to test some where.

Breedlove lives about an hour from me in Rio Vista, Ca. I went to his shop when he had an Open House showing his last LSR afew years ago. A MAJOR SPEED NUT. Drag Racers and builders Pete Ogden and Paul Sutherland both work on Breedlove's last LSR.

Very cool video! Half airplane, half auto.

  11. How can anyone stay so mellow in a situation like that? One of my all-time heroes, for sure.

Ryan...good viewing for the weekend crowd...these films are neat to share...

a little Craig Breedlove trivia: he drove the twin-engined dragster, the "Freight Train", a few times (so did Tom McEwen and Mickey Thompson)

as far as the poise and coolness that is typical of guys like this, all I know is I'm not one of them. I wake up in the morning wired.
These guys are McQueen knd of "cool"...

I read that John Glenn actually fell asleep while strapped into a missile on the launch-pad waiting for liftoff to go into orbit...

Thanks for sharing this story, it was a great one!

I wake up wired in the morning, just like Mazooma1. I could only dream of being that cool under pressure...

Sounds like something a certain '60s Fuel Altered driver would do.

Ha... I'm probably the most laid back guy in Texas... and I still don't think you could get me to sit in front of a rocket like that. That dude is special.

Great stuff! As has been said, a big THANK YOU to Mazooma1 for sharing these videos and Ryan for making it happen!

  21. A cool little story. I was at a Maple Grove, Pa. meet a few years ago, some heavy loud racing started, everybody ran to the fence. I saw a guy in a small wooden booth near the stands promoting something. I stopped to talk and took his card, looked at it, you got it, Craig Breedlove. I was elated.:D A guy I read about, listened as the Beach Boys sang about ,and admired as a kid, and their I coincidentally meet one on one. He said it was him and I have to hold onto that!:)

Tom, a friend of mine was buddys with Dean Moon many years ago. Dean gave him this film. This 16mm film was sitting on a shelf for many years. My friend is selling his house, so as he was packing stuff up and ran across the film again. So, finally I got him to have them transferred to DVD off of the 16mm print.
There were four parts, three of which Ryan has posted thus far.
The last film is a real short, but you'll all raise your glass to it when you see it.........Doug

When I was a kid in the mid 60s the “Sonic I” was at a NY Auto Show. Love this stuff then and I still do today. Thanks again. Slim

As far as I know and I am not some rocket scientist is that this car is a rocket not a jet. I had to keep reminding myself.

I am guessing a rocket engine would be way scarier to ride in than a jet.

Great video, neat to see those big name guys at that point in the game. racing funny cars. Breedlove has always been my fav LSR guy, I once saw a t.v. show about an attempt by Breedlove on the LSR; his dog got run over and killed by someone so h packed up and went home, his dog meant that much to him. When he crashed the Spirit of America into the brine pond after a six mile ride where he cut a phone pole in half he was actually excited, but in a way that seemed to say he'love to do it again...

    Couple of obtuse trivial comments;

Did he change his name to Breedlove? I'm not sure if it was his birth name?

He has owned a few drag cars - i think he started with a 34 for the salt? he had a front engine dragster in 64 with full streamlining - i dont think he ran it much and it was bought by connie kalitta i think to put in garlits museum? I think the car was painted by George Barris and that paint is still on the car?

Hard to figure out who's cooler - Prudhomme or Breedlove?

When Andy Green took the LSR away from Breedlpve about ten years ago, Breedlove was there. He was defeated, but he was very humble and gracious and generous to Green and Noble. To have done that after seeing his lifes work taken away from him is a extremely classy thing to do. speaks to his character.

I remember the film, when he exited the half-submerged racer and said..."and for my next trick!"......with a big smile on his face.
