Wow! What an incredible piece of equipment! I know you will do it justice. ...Don't let us down!!! Sent from my iPhone using TJJ!!!
I cant believe how cool this car is. I want one soooo bad, just have room and finances for 1 special interest car and right now it is my coupe. But if I came across a merc like that, the coupe is down the road!
Hello Kevan! I too have acute memories of seeing that 39 Merc at Fathers Day a few years ago. Thoughts of its acquisition beat a path through my mind. It had a haunting presence. I wondered exactly as you did regarding the cars past and hoped that the person who obtained this car would do proper research concerning its provenance. Im glad it was you who ended up with this car, as it will certainly be handled in a correct manner. I will pursue my connections in helping to establish that history. Irrespective of any proven past glories, it indeed is representative of the period and can stand alone on those merits. David Martinez is definitely the sage choice in sticking to all the early details and workmanship of Carson, Hall, or Gaylord style tops. Enclosed are two photos of my 36 Ford period custom, with side curtains (I know you have roll up windows) painstakingly made by Martinez Industries from my design based upon era examples, and in primer at his shop. Remember, lead, lacquer primer, lacquer color coats Who cares about longevity?! Best of Luck in Your Endeavors!<O</O
Kevan Squeak had told me he had sold the Merc. Glad to see it is in good hands. I took the Merc to LARS along with a Woodie to sell for my then boss (Im recently retired). The owner has several hi profile cars. Aaron had talked to me about the car earlier in the day and wanted to trade, but the boss said no trades. I know he really wanted the Merc but what the boss says I had to do. Sorry man. I spoke with Squeak later in the day and he asked if I would bring to his place he would buy it. I went to a little run in Ruidoso N. M. this weekend and ran into David Lightbourn and mentioned to him the Merc. He said he had some info and would get back to me. He called yesterday and said he ran into the prevoius owners cousin there and was told that the Merc had belonged to his cousin for a very long time and told David where he lived. I have names and an address but no telephone number. I will pursue this further and talk to Michael because I had asked Michael and he said he could help. Supposedly this is on the up and up from David. Anyway I hope we can find out more about the Merc. I'll help in any way I can because the Merc sat outside the shop fo r a couple years and I wanted it but I had too many projects.
You need to buy a lottery ticket man. To be able to get those cars is just plain awesome and I am jealous as hell. Rad cars man I am subscribing now so I can see the outcome!
Thanks David, your '36 is incredible! Definitely an inspiration! And yes this 39 will be all finished in lead and lacquer!!!
Oh man, you just made my day! Thank you so much for pursuing this!!!! Any info would be greatly appreciated!!! I can't wait to hear what you find out and please let me know if I can do anything on my end to help, letters, phone calls, etc... Kind Regards, Kevan Sledge
