Hot Rods 31 Model A Victoria Build w/Pics – Miss Vicky

  1. Dave, Have you picked out the trailer for your Queen? She looks REAL good.

  2. That rant wasn't about giving up on Miss Vicky, it was something else entirely.

Thanks Martin and Lee. Yes, I will probably get some sort of car cover, but I won't need a trailer unless I break down (likely), and even then, AAA will probably send a roll back.

I will OJ, thanks for all your help and encouragement.

Just discovered your thread, glad you kept posting! Your thread is filled with great info - I read it all the way through. Still need to go back to the beginning and follow all the additional links you included. Your extremely talented, I learned a lot and will be using this thread as a reference when I start on my '30 A. Thanks for going to the trouble to share everything!

  8. I really appreciate the positive feedback guys, thank you.

I just drove down to Scott's shop this evening to pick up the body. I installed all the door hardware and we put the doors on. Then we loaded it up and I took it home. About 5 miles from my house, it started raining .... hard. I got to unload it by myself, in the dark, in the rain. So now the new paint has been christened.

And now Miss Vicky is all dried off and safe and sound at home. BTW, tonight was the first time I saw her new finish in person – the paint is fu*king amazing – the nicest paint job I've ever had. Thanks a ton Scott. Here are a couple of pics with the doors installed:

  15. I'm very happy for you. There have been many trials for you on the build, but you have seen them through. I know you have much work left to do, but this is a big step. I especally enjoy the times in the garage and look forward to helping with some of the final assembly.

  19. I painted the frame this weekend. ScottB made sure I didn't screw it up too bad.

    Ready to shoot:

  21. I was wondering if you got to it this weekend or not. Dodged the rain enough to get it done, I see. Looks good.

Wow that is just the right color for that car and what a great paint job. That is going to be one knock out car when it's done this time.

  26. Welp, I did some sanding and buffing on the frame this weekend. In addition to wet sanding the surfaces that will be exposed with 1500 and 2000 grit, I had to get rid of a few runs/sags that were on the bottom edge of the rails. I used a very fine file to take down the runs and then hit it with 2000 grit.

Then I broke out the compound and the buffer and did a little polishing.

Everything was going well until this happened.

Now I have to re-shoot that spot and try to blend it in.

  27. Minor set back relative to the rest if the build, Take it in stride brother.

Personally, I wouldn't blend it, I'd paint the whole rail again and give yourself some more clear to work with and then buff that edge with a mini low speed detail buffer or by hand. A big buffer with a foam pad will tear into those edges. Actually a buffer that's bigger than the surface being buffed will tear into it

Vic is looking great, Dave! I'm LOVING that color!! Sorry about the burn-through on the frame. That IS a bummer! You'll have it looking as good as new in no time!
