First let me say it is impressive the amount of information here. I Joined the hamb in 06 and it didn't take long before I came to realize I needed to have a model A. Finished my Impala in 2010 and started collecting a few "A" parts. A few years ago I bought a 28 sedan body. last spring I found a 28 coupe which is what I really wanted. I started out thinking I can take my time building this coupe, but the further along I get the faster I want to get it done so I can wear it out. I've been putting a lot of miles on the 60 even though these summers are short. Now I will be able to drive later into fall and earlier in spring and in adverse weather with a solid roof and a heater.
This is what I have been doing this last year since I retired.
Making everything I can and buying what I can't make. Pure fun.
The body has it's issues but that will be for later. 1.JPG 2.JPG 3.JPG
Poured and machined adapters for the back and spacers for the front. 4.jpg 4a.JPG 4b.JPG 5.JPG 6.JPG 7.JPG 8a.JPG
    Cut 35 wire wheels down to 15" 8b.JPG 8c.JPG 9.JPG 9a.JPG Made a jig, dropped the axle 3". 9b.JPG Reversed spring eyes 9c.JPG 28 axle and spring, 48 Merc Spindles and wishbones which were flipped. 56 f100 drums 10b.jpg 10c.jpg 11.JPG 11a.JPG

    Ever since seeing flthd31 build a 32 frame, I knew I had to try it, although not quite as pretty as his. Added a 3" bleed sweep. 12.JPG 12a.JPG 13.JPG 13a.JPG 14.JPG 14a.JPG 14b.JPG 14c.JPG 14d.JPG

Made 1/4 elliptical rear suspension out of 48 merc front spring. Made top arms and brackets and turned some bushings. 14f.JPG 15c.JPG 15d.JPG 15e.JPG
Was going to build a 283, but a friend had one all ready rebuilt. Mated it to a nv3500 overdrive 16a.JPG 16b.JPG 16c.JPG
Starting to look like a hot rod now. Going to have to cut the rad down quite a lot. 17a.JPG
    I like the adjustable rear suspension 18a.JPG 18d.JPG 18e.JPG 18f.JPG 19.JPG
Trying to fit a clutch and brake pedals and exhaust, a little tight. 22.JPG 23.JPG
    Getting frame done. 24.JPG 25.JPG 25a.JPG 25b.JPG 25c.JPG 27.JPG 28.JPG
Found some 2G carbs and the intake came in. 29.JPG 30.JPG
Machined an adapter for pcv system. 30a.JPG 30b.JPG 31.JPG
Found a Ford truck steering box for cowl steering. 32.JPG
That is about where I am now. I"ll post more as I go if your interested.

A" Metal-Master " for sure-real nice work. Don't believe I've seen anyone on here make their own custom wires ( although I'm sure they have). Thanks for the pics- good stuff!

on that pcv adapter you made is that a proper pcv valve that screws in horizontal or is it hollow.?
been thinking about doing the same to my 283

Thank you all for the compliments.
As far as the pcv adapter thing. It just replaces the draft tube. The actual pcv valve will come out of the rear carb base. This is just a tube to hook the hose on.

It is from a 71 ford half ton. I think they were the same from around 69 to 76. Not exactly sure. It is long enough that I should not have to extend the shaft to make it through the cowl.

I really like your approach and workmanship, 15" wires are incredible.
You might want to rethink your quarter elips, I had similar, They really do need a shackle and lower control arm, the spring itself really can't act as the control arm. I do realize it is similar to the MG suspension but theres' lots of differences and right now is the time to evaluate. Have a look at Posies' kit, see what they did and why.

    Thanks for the kind words.
As for the rear suspension, it is patterned after one in Malcolms build here on the hamb. I have been following it. He has been driving his roadster for the last couple years and I don't think he has had any issues at all with the rear suspension. The top arms being at an angle to the springs really keep the rear end stable with no sideways movement. If they were parallel there would be a problem. I have done a few things over on this project, there will be more. I am trying to research as much as I can as I go. Thank you for the input.

hot damn! pouring and machining, frame built from flat... awesome work so far!

I've been planning on building a '32ish frame from flat for years... have the metal sitting on a shelf. that's as far as I got to date :)

I took the frame off the jig for the last time and put the suspension back on. 33.JPG 34.JPG Shortened the driveshaft, painted it and installed the drivetrain. 35.JPG 36.JPG 37.JPG Made some motor mounts. they ended up 1/2" lower than planned. Might have to change them or shim them. 38.JPG 39.JPG 40.JPG 41.JPG 42.JPG 43.JPG 44.JPG Made some weld on adapters. not sure if that is the right name. 45.JPG 46.JPG 47.JPG 48.JPG 49.JPG Guess that is it for today.

Very nice, I am working on a 29 roadster and using a 283 and a NV3500 as well. However I'm going with a Model A frame. Looking forward to seeing yours come together.

If everything is too tight on the left side for the pedal assembly and exhaust, you might want to consider swinging the left exhaust pipe under the engine and running both pipes down the right side of the car. I did that on my '29 Coupe and it made things much easier.

You know I never thought of that. It could work, although it is going to be a tight fit on the other side by the starter also. I just put it all together today and I will be working on the pedals next. I will have a better idea this coming week. Thank you for the input.

Post three, the rear axle control arms. What happens if one rear wheel runs over a 4X4?
    Will the control arms break?
