My dad is 73 years old and has built more hot rods than I can remember. As a kid growing up he took me to car shows and the drag races regularly. Together we have built everything from full out drag cars to all kinds of hot rods and muscle cars. He taught me there is nothing wrong with diversity . This build will be themed around a late 50s car that he would have built if he could have. We picked this car up on a Craigslist ad . A lot of work has been done , but some of it is crude ,so we will refine it a bit , but remember this will reflect something built in the 50s in a home garage. There will be some aftermarket parts but mostly it will be stock or modified original parts.
As I said there are some crude repairs done. Someone thought it was a good idea to just screw the new wheel well onto the rusted out old one. They did this on both sides
Came with this mercury and a t5 conversion. We will be keeping the t5 and swapping the mercy for a 283 with 2 fours , don't need the comments about the SBC . we have plans for the flathead down the road on another project .
The firewall is more work that needs to be addressed. The pedals are 40 ford .steering looks to be 50s ford truck.
That's it for now , need to get the body off and blow the chassis apart so I can box the frame and other mods . I will post more as we go
Great car to start with. I've always dug old flatheads. Got an old Mercury flathead on the engine stand. Great story as well. Can't wait to see it getting worked on!! Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Flatheads are cool but like said earlier I got a sweet deal on a complete powerpac 283. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I will find a home for this guy in another project. Got the flathead out. Need to make room for the Chevy Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
At first I was gonna flip the firewall but changed my mind because it was all jacked up by the prior owner in order to get the merc in . So I figured I'd just recess it Used a hurst mount I picked up at a swap meet a few years back. I didn't even need to move the frame mounts for the flathead, which was a time saver A little tight on the fuel pump but nothing I can't fix easy Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Going to have to recess about 3.5 inches which is pretty standard Best thing about today was spending it with my dad. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Still need to work on the transmission crossmember. It's close but it has the engine angle all wrong. The rear end will need attention as well , whoever installed it has it about 4 degrees up at the pinion. The clutch/ brake pedal mount is too far forward , should be an easy fix too. I'll post more as we go. Thanks for looking. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Edit. Changed the name of this thread because my son was born on October 25th. He was a huge part of our shops success , he loved hot rods of all kinds Unfortunately we lost him in a car accident 7 years ago when he was 19. My dad dedicated the number on this car to him. So it's now the # 25 coupe. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I'm sorry to read of your sons passing. The Coupe is cool, and looks like you have plenty of work ahead. I like your plans.
Subscribed! Sorry to hear about your son. It's cool you and your pops can do this together. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Its cool to run a banger, Its faster to run a Flathead and it makes sense run a SBC. All three are cool, but ain't the only cool mills around, they are pop-trad. Like my wife, they can be dressed to look good, but I've also seen the opposite, LOL I like your work so fare, and sad to hear about your sun.
Got the body off I've got some work to do on this chassis. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
