  8. Unfortunately, my long time friend, Denny Wile, wadded up his '32 coupe on his second pass today. After running 132, he hit something slick on the track just past the lights and center punched the left lane wall nearly head on. Denny is sore, but OK. The coupe is probably a total. I got this photo of the right side. The left is completely gone, but the officials wouldn't let anyone near the car. Denny\'s coupe 001.JPG

Here's a lousy picture as I was driving out of the damage to the coupe. A real shame.

These are my pics from the Antique Nationals. A couple are from our spot in the pits and the rest are of a couple of '29 Roadster P/U's you may recognize. It was a great day and I was happy to see a return to 1/4 mile racing.

No prep whatsoever on the track that day, what a shame to loose such a great car and a crowd pleaser :(

Yes. It was a sad day for my friend Larry.
The good out of this is that physically he was OK.

Here is a clip of Dennis and his 32 coupe that his son Scott took of his pass. He started running to the end of the track and put the phone in his pocket. a little later you can hear the crowd cheer when Dennis gets out of the car.

Dennis told me today that he has been running this coupe for over 40 years, and running it hard. He took is oldest son Scott home from the hospital in the coupe. He runs at Irwindale almost every week, and goes to the Antique Nationals every year, and other Nostalgia races. He just runs this thing hard, and has for a long time. This is his first major crash in it. (he bent his rear bumber, and front axle a bit on that wheelie). His sons help him tune and, most importantly, pull down on his belt straps before each run.

He is going to rebuild. This may take some time, but knowing Dennis and his sons, probably faster than you would think. Keep an eye out for a 32 chassis, he runs with buggy springs.

  28. What did you do to fix your starting issues on your Model A that you had at Bob's Big Boy a few weeks ago?
