How did I miss your build before today? The Vette is so cool the way you're heading, and exactly what I'd want myself. I like original Vettes, but I love modified Vettes much more!
After many hours of ironing out this body, it's 95% finished. A couple more hours and it will be ready to squirt with some primer. This sure hasn't been the "fun part" of the build, but glad to have this work behind me.
This brings back memories of doing my 57 Vette (wish that I still had it) in home garage in 1976. It looks like that you will run the exhaust out under the car rather than under the tailights. Good choice to avoid complexity.
Baron, looks good. Bodywork can be a real pain. I am starting to psyche myself up to do a bunch in the spring/summer. You're lucky you have that behind you-looks great. Like your tunnel ram, bought one just like it last Saturday at a local swap meet. There are some big runners in that sucker.-Jim
Wish I could do better body work! I just seem to apply bondo and find it all on the floor. Never seem to be able to get it good enough that it doesn't need a little more before paint.
Figured I'd take a break from the body work and put the motor together. Nothing radical here. 1991 454, 4 bolt mains, Comp Cam (11 602-4)hydraulic flat tappet, double roller timing chain, etc. The heads are 396,closed chamber, to up the CR a little. Used all Comp cams springs, retainers, seals, new stainless valves, etc. Should be a decent motor for the street.
Just looked up the cam specs on the Comp Cams website, perfect cam for this car. This motor and tranny combo in a 'glass car is gonna be a handful, but the "Grin Factor" is gonna be through the roof. Looking forward to your first drive video! lol
Great choice on the motor, and heads. The small chamber heads will bring the 454 to life, and work well with your cam choice. I'm running the same cam in my .040" over 454 with small chamber Edelbrock heads, and I love it. Hard to beat the inexpensive HP you'll have with this combo.
Thanks guys. Little slow at the shop today with the snow storm, so I took advantage of the down time to remove the "mouse motor".
Glad to see someone did something other than move snow today! I'm a believer in big blocks with 4 speeds myself. This car is going to be awesome like your '55
Haven't checked this in awhile. Your making good progress. Someone mentioned awhile back about Cal-tracs for the rear traction. Do yourself a favor and check them out they are quantum leaps ahead of the old slapper bar deal. Frank
Thanks. I have Cal-Tracs on my 65 Chevy II and they do work great. I'm really trying to keep this car "period correct", and much like I did my first 57 Corvette back in 1971. Been waiting a long time to do another one of these, this style.
Where did you get the scoop? Seems like the ones I've found are taller than that....I'm looking to put one on my '64 coupe, which is built with an early 70's look.
I bought it twenty five years ago at one of the swap meets at NE Dragway. Been waiting for the right car to put it on. Speedway Motors sells one that is very similar. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Tunne...&cagpspn=pla&gclid=CK_fp_fd7LwCFdJ9OgodymsA7A
Baron, what gears are you going to run? I had a set of 4:88s in my 340 HP '62, was streetable as I drove it home on weekends from auto tech college but also very good on the strip with right tire size. Car is coming along very nice!
Fantastic........ Like the old school Vettes, they look better in 60's race trim, than stock. Many made their way down the 1/4 back then, they were much cheaper. Tried to find one, to do up, but even in parts rollers are big bucks.
