Zeke, Thanks, I saw both of those posts. I think I'm going to get the heads magnafluxed to make sure they are good. I may sell them, or I may keep them. Dan
I guess that is my question. Does anyone know if a part with a 56 casting number would have been cast in 1959? All the casting information I find clear states that 3731762 was 1956 only. I know that Chevrolet used the same casting numbers on different model years, but the casting information would have list the 3731762 casting for multiple years. It makes more sense that Chevrolet would have superseded the 56 casting for the later 2x4 casting if the vehicle would have required service repair. Also, if the number "6" was reversed on the casting, would the number "6" have been reversed for an entire week of production? My reason for getting to the bottom of this is I understand the date code importance for restoration enthusiast and I don't know of any 1956 Corvettes manufactured in 1959.
That is why I got the heads!! The dragster is currently in the shop getting ready for construction of the body. He used 55 heads on the SBC engine, I believe he used these heads during 1956.
I found a set of 56 vette 2x4 heads in a junk yard, sold them for $650, bare and rough That was in 1992
