Projects 1955 Pontiac gasser build

Only 12.4 in the 1/4. Should go mid 11's once the carb gets redone and converter straightened out.

Thanks for all the nice words everyone, cars a blast to drive can't wait till I get the tune in and really make some good runs.

Thanks for checking back in . I had to take the engine back apart for a head gasket that blew . Also found some bearing wear upon inspection . So now adding main studs and getting the align bore done for crank and cam . Also did some more porting on the heads , should pick up 10 cfm's. I would have liked to do a few other things but just for now just get it back together .

With another carb it did get down to low 12's and with
A looser converter will be in the 11's easily.

I also pick up some old round spoke Et wheels for the front.

What color/colors are you thinking of?

 

I might leave the roof the off white and either orange, gold or a light mettalic blue for the rest of the car . Or might bring the off white down to the trim line.

 

Good to see it didn't fall by the way side.

 

I love that gasser. I have the perfect tow car / support vehicle for it...My wifes 55 wagon.

I have a few updates and a few pics with the "new" front wheels (ET II) , got the engine back together over the winter and up and running again. A little bigger cam & torque converter. Getting the 60 ft's down to 1.66 and working out the tune for the new combo. I went to the local track for the nostalgic race and got invited to run with the Nostalgia Gassers group. Looking to get to lower 11's, maybe just mid 11's with my weight. At least with these heads, a nice set of alum dports would/should get me in the 10's.

 

Thanks, only problem is the front tires are still touching the ground LOL.

 

Speaking of front tires , I picked up some cheap radials for now so I could use these wheels. I didn't like the sidewall so with some sanding removed all the lettering and smoothed them out.



Also another change I made on the engine, Pontiac's like to run a little hotter towards the back of the block and can get air pockets and overheat like I had some issues when I first put it together last year, also i'm not running a heater core to help with any flow out the back. I added in some fittings and routed it to the front water crossover to help equilize the cooling system out.

Thanks for the comments, ended up running a best for now 7.50 in the 1/8 which is a 11.70 1/4 mile. I have 1 more race left before i'm done for the year.

I had a couple renditions done for my car in the photoshop thread i'm considering , thanks to themoose.

 

Definitely liking that top color scheme

 

I prefer the lower color scheme. One color suits a two door post in my opinion

 

Top one looks better. White with a red flake roof would look cool.

 

With the way my body work is I may have to opt for the lighter color. It's not a show car by any means.

I vote for the red also. The only criticism I have is that I would have tubbed it instead of cutting quarter panels. I have wanted to go that route on my '55 Chieftain.

Gasser and tubbed rear end don't go together. I'm not building a street rod...probably would look ok though for that

 

How about red/cream/red?

 

Still undecided, might just leave the roof white and lower candy apple red or whatever. Right now just looking forward to doing some more racing this weekend.
