My `55 210 sedan(post), will soon have straight axle. It will have a radiused and lipped rear opening as well. I will get some pics up when this all begins. Right now the car is kinda gutted and in pieces. Have a crabby sbc to drop in it for it right now, with fender headers. I like 2 tone 55`s, but a solid color gasser is the way to go for me.

    Nice link...http://public.fotki.com/redlinetoys/gassers/

    Damn great thread!!!
It's helping me as I'm in the process of building mine. Attached are some pix of the build process on radiusing the rear fenders. I want my tires to stick out about an inch on each side like the old days.

    1) The mock up at desired ride height
    2) Dr. Kiwi Kev performing surgery
    3) Wallah!
    4) Fit with 15 x 10" Hurst slick

I then bent a 3/8" steel fuel line and welded it on to give it a smooth finish.

Here's my '55 at Hotrod-A-Rama last summer parked next to the (former) Bill Marshall '32. (You can tell it's summer in Tacoma because of the clouds.)

  18. Man this is why I joined The H.A.M.B. board. This thread is great. I've been posting replies since I logged on last week about 55's. I regret not having pictures yet of my build, but here is a description. 55' 150, plywood back seat area, Jim Meyers straight axle fresh chassis, going chrome on the tube, 69' vette 427 from my bud Rod Saboury,( check out his 63 vette, fastest streetable car 6.95 at 210mph Super Chevy Car of the Year) . To continue the 55' will sport Radir slicks on torque thrust D's with skinny's up front. The engine will be topped with Hilborns, moon tank out front, undecided on using the one piece Harwood I have or the original steel front. Plans for the interior-red rolled metalflake. M-22 4-speed, vintage 6 bolt Ansen bell. vintage lettering , no front bumper, tow tabs, 60 chevy steering wheel, 4 wheel Wilwood brakes. It will be a recreation, happy mix of some new and old, maybe not for the purest but its mine. I'm assembling the chassis now and will post a pic of it soon. Growing up with these cars and now building this one is an adrenalen rush. There is just something about these Tri-Five Chevs. They are timeless. I asked this on another thread, How many bowties are on the dash trim of a 55? Somebody knows or they are counting them right now. Note: Plan your work and work your plan!

  21. Cool tread!
Anybody have ideas on how to make the flaired lip around the rear wheel radius?

Putting flares on the back of my 55 over the last couple of days, used 1/2" electrical conduit and bent it around a 30" tall slick, welded the tubing to the fender and started with the body filler. Flare looks similar to the front fender lip. Still have more work to do.

  23. Cars look awesome.

The 30" tires look too big to me, how about 325-50-15 MT DR's...

    How'd I miss a 55 Chevy Gasser thread?
    Here's mine:

I've grown fond on the flares on my 55. They were done way back when using sheet metal and bondo. I would like to redo them someday, but want to keep the same basic flavor:

IMHO the most BADASS gasser ever.

  29. The flairs on our '56 were done the same way back in '61-'62 when
the car was first turned into a race car. My dad says at the time the biggest slicks you could get were M & H 10.00 x 16 top fuel tires and thats what he wanted to run. At the time it was the only way they had to make em fit and they hadn't even thought about narrowing the rearend, much less how to do it or afford to have it done. Personally I think if your doing a '56 or '57 you gotta follow the original shape, not just a round cut like on a '55. The '55's look bitchen that way, but the 56/57's need the rear "tear drop" or "flair back" moved too.
