    Hi
I m new to this forum and I m living in Norway.
I ve just bought a 1931 Pontiac Coupe and I was hoping to do some chopping, lowering and maybe channeling. The plan is power it with a 303 Olds Rocket I have in my garage.
Apparently Pontiac parts for lowering is not that easy to find. Does anyone have some ideas for where to buy a dropped front axle or any other lowering tips.

    Thank you.

Well, I won't LIE to you and you can't LIE around when building a hot rod, but you probably will have to adapt a Ford dropped axle front end to your Pontiac.. Welcome to the hamb and show us some pics of your coupe...

    Pictures or it never happened!!

I would talk to this guy:
    http://www.droppedaxles.com/index.html

    He can drop yours.
I most confess going to a M2 would be just as silly to me as a ford front end!
With or without fenders, but a dropped front axle always looks good, and is available. and with a tape measure, it's possible to find replacement. A new spring can give you more drop, and better spring, if you need em.

And with some shock and brake fixing, it should handle and feel good, maybe be as good or better as a Chevy AD truck!

    Thanks.

I ve been doing some searching and measuring today and it looks like I can use front axles from 47-53 Chevy pickup.

Actually my father bought this 31 coup and have just got it home from oversea.
But he also bought a 1932 Oldsmobile. He has a lot of other cars, and now it became one to many.
That's why I am buying his 31 Pontiac Coupe. But before I buy this coupe I have to make sure that it will be possible to build it like I want to. Therefore, I m doing some research :)

I will se if I can get some pictures in a couple of days.

I am also working on my 1941 Oldsmobile and my new garage, so unfortunately I will not start on the Pontiac until Olds is running and my garage is ready.

Nice looking Pontiac, not something you see too often.
Best of luck with the build.

    Just curios.
Is the 31 Pontiac with hydraulic brakes?

That looks mint! Very nice car!!

If it's anything like the Chevy it's a fine automobile.

Does it run 5 or 6 bolt circle? Do yo plan to run it as is first?

Wow! Nice Pontiac. Like all GM cars of that vintage it has a wood understructure in the body. So it is a bit more difficult to chop the top than a Ford. Also, I have lowered Chevy front ends by using a Speedway 6 inch dropped axle and their 49-54 Chevy spindle combination. I mounted the axle between the spring and the frame. But I had to notch the frame a little and cut the bottom off the front cross member and move it up so the axle has room to move. Or you can do as already mentioned... replace the front cross member with a Ford member, remove the original front springs and mount the front spring and axle as a Ford. Ralph

Without having to buy new parts I would think having the front axle dropped while removing a few springs and dearching the rears would be the way to go.

It does not have hydraulic brakes. I will convert to hydraulic brakes of some kind.

I don t know if it has 5 or 6 bolt circle jet.

Thanks again for all your suggestions and recommendations.
I realize that I am not able to handle all your suggestions until I have got the car home in my owne garage and can look under it while I am reading your suggestion.

I am settling with the fact that it will be possible to lower it somehow, now that I know that someone can drop my original axle, if I don t get anyting else to fit, and I have decided to buy the 31 coupe. But I need to sell the 61 C-10 to give room for the 31 coupe since my new garage is not finished jet.

When I start the work on the Pontiac I will start a new project treat and we can catch up there.

Again - Thank you all so much.
