I have been browsing this forum for more than a year now, thinking of building a hotrod. few months back i decided to start this project, since i live in Kuwait it was hard to find a solid 1930-31 coupe to start with. so i bought one from the US , at the same time time i contacted Derrek , boling brothers . i am going to use the original body only from the car that i bought . everything else comes from Bolingbrothers. with a lot of help from Derrek . i managed to plane my build . had to wait for 3 months for the car and parts to arrive. i have built and restored few cars before , but non of them a hot rod i will chop 3" and channel 3" Day 0 Day 1
It looks like you are off to a great start. Just curious, what is that blue car poking out behind the Model A?
Nice project, congratulations. Model "A"s are good stuff. Now, about that blue car..... GT-40 Fiberfab?? mid engine or transverse?? I was determined to get one of those when I was about 18.( and broke!)A buddy of mine has a Jamaican with a 351/ 4 spd. in it He drag races at New England Dragway, and 2 years ago he brought it to Florida for the winter and ran it down there. This guy is 72, and thrashes that thing like a teenager! Good luck.
Pat59 i left the wrench on purpose , i am just mocking up front suspension,i was going to remove it late before taking everything apart for painting. woodhawg its a reproduction not a real gt40. Mike its a Tornado gt40 , a British manufacturer. mid engine , un13 transaxle , very close to the original .
Cool! a Ford in a Ford, at the risk of ridicule. I was having trouble when using an A frame and trying to stuff the SBF in there. Longer than other motors. You planning on cutting the firewall?
Lookin good. Well, if you can have this shipped to Kuwait, I guess I've ran out of excuses for takin so long, piddlin to finish projects with all the resources available in the middle if USA.
Yes I didn't like the idea of having a Chevy motor in a Ford . I dont need to cut or move the firewall. Bolingbrothers moved the engine mounts for word I think or they stretched the frame few inches.

Although I like a 289, and a Y block. Nice plan are you sure that 3 of the top, and 3 of the bottom ain't to much for you? Can you fit?
Thanks,yes pictures from Kuwait, yes i own the gt40 clone to, and its a lot of fun to drive on tracks, but not on roads. hard to get in and out of it , bad visibility on sides and back. very stiff suspension. I am 5.7 , i guess i can fit. will lower the seat to get more space.
That's so cool, they look like bathroom tiles in you drive way. Very classy. You don't need to sound cool to me, how much is 5.7 in cm? I would still chop and channel with caution. Try do a mock up, 3inch channel, lowered seat pan and do measurements getting in and out. Before chopping, it would be a pain in the ass to un chop or get in and out off. I bet it's a little hard to find a chopped a channeled traditional rod in Kuwait? Good luck, and Keep at it, lad!
Very cool!....I'm always very impressed with 'where' and 'how' car projects originate out-of-the-norm (so to speak), and Kuwait is about as far removed as I would have thought....I would also imagine 'rust' is not a big problem....I think everyone would just sorta... 'stop' and stare at your cars? Very cool indeed!!
volvobrynk , thanks for the advice , will do that. i 'v seen 2 factory five 33 ,and an unknown fiberglass hot rod in Kuwait. didn't like the FF . and the fiberglass one was piece of crap. Raiman1959 , yes strange how things work , i am sure that back in the 30's no one knew that after 80 years this car will end up in Kuwait rust is not a problem at all , thank god, but the heat will do its magic , temp can reach 54C in the summer . know i need to paint the model a , so i can register it and get the plates i am not sure which color should i go with. what do you think? i am open to suggestions.
I like the blue. Are you going for a flat, primer look or gloss? I'm doing my Model A coupe in a gloss grey but I think it would look good as a flat primer as well. In your area I think a light color will be a better choice than a heat absorbing dark color. 05BodyWork140 by Bib Overalls, on Flickr
I'm going for a flat paint. i used plastidip today . just to have an idea of what the car would look like . sprayed brown color , will try the blue color later this week. the good thing about plastidip is you can peel the paint if you don't like it. any idea ehats the code of the blue paint in pic 4?
I vote for the blue, or the brown/black in the first picture. Sorry, but I don't have a clue what the paint code is for the blue.
I'm also doing a 31 coupe and have been trying to decide on the drive train. I have built a 52 F-1 pick up and put a 289 with a C4 and very happy with it. I'm leaning towards the "Ford in a Ford" vibe. I've been a Ford guy all along. I'm going to use a Brookville frame I got. Point is it will be stock length and a 289 has to be set back further and I don't like how they look in the stock engine bay. Long way off, I'm just taking the body off the original frame now. I vote for blue, Ford Washington Blue ?
My 37 in my avatar is VW early 70's late 60's Barrier Blue. It gets a lot of raves from folks about being the perfect color fwiw.
