While in Cincinnati for the Cavalcade of Customs, my dad and I had a day of nothing to do. Josh Shaw, being the nice guy he is, took us to Zakira's Restorations so we would not have to sit in the hotel room all day. Zakira's restores old race cars and things of that nature. Bottom line is, they are GREAT at what they do! When we were there, they where restoring a couple race cars and building a couple boat motors. Not any ordinary boat motors though. 2-16 cylinder motors for 1 race boat. The work that is done in this shop is absolutely amazing. Alot of the parts that are used are made in the shop. I mean honestly, how often to you go to a swap meet and find parts for a 1923 miller race car....... I wish I was smart enough to have remembered the details. I was so captivated by the cars, motors, and parts in the place that It was hard to pay attention to the owner (who by the way is one of the nicest guys ever) I guess I will quit boring you and just get on with the pictures. If you are ever in cincinnati call up Zakira's and see if they will let you stop in and take a peek. Bring a camera..... http://www.zakiras.com/ This engine on the dyno is one of two, 16 cylinder engines that go in a race boat that is being restored. I believe it is being restored by someone else but Zakira's is building or rebuilding the motors. Yes, the picture is right-side-up. The carbs are behind the frame. That's little ol' me. It was really hard to get into. He had to take the steering wheel off for me to get out. I didn't want to break anything. haha Beautifull
Ohmigod, thanks for those wonderful pics! What a collection of great cars at this guy's shop. Nothing better than old race cars. They definitely have soul. Thanks again.
on that Miller 122 each one of those Dual Throat Miller Carbs cost over $2,000 ea!!! and there are 4 of 'em
yes, i called (well it was over 2 years ago now that i think about it) and they were brand new Dual Thoat Miller Carbs. I was thinking it might be neat to build a spotless T flat head with lots of polished alumium on it and one of those carbs on it. But i kinda balked at the price...
oohhhhh Nick.. the secret is out... That's a very special place for special people... I was there for hours, they left me there went to lunch and came back.. Jim is a great guy...
Eh, I don't think you have too much to worry about Thom. This will probably get burried to page 10 again real quick. Seems like everyone would rather read about "My boifriend got me some new flat black fingernail polish to match my kustom volvo!"
Funny that you two would share those words... -------------------- Hey, anyone know anything more on the "positively negative" car? I've never seen that thing before and it's an interesting concept for sure...
All I've found on it is that its the Milliken MX1 Camber Car. It ran in Goodwood in 2002. Cant find it in my Formula Car books, so it might not have ran in any races. Maybe it was just a research vehicle?
I think it was a research vehicle. The magazine in the picture is classic and sportscar, that maybe the only place i have ever seen anything on that car.
Thanks for sharing. Man, I'd love to see that shop. A bit more about the Milliken: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/main.jhtml?xml=/motoring/2002/08/16/emfdaim117.xml
Wonder if the Wayne-Jimmy goes in the Kellison ... This is a great bunch of pics ! Thanks, Nick ! 302
