Im looking to convert my hydraulic window system on my 53 Cadillac to power windows. Do any of you guys know of a kit that is made for the Caddy? Thanks, Steve O.
I guess you have the same problem I did with my Olds convertible. I used Speciality Power Window kits on the drivers doors ( there is not a window regulator as such, just a scissor like devide that the cylinder moves up and down). For the quarter windows, I installed an electic linear accuator in place of the hydraulic cylinder, it takes some work, but in the end the result works out great. If you have any questions PM me
Thanks oldsman. Ill contact you if I run into any problems. Steve Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I am looking for regulators for my '42 Chevy Coupe, I had not heard of Nu Relics, I just looked at thier product, looks good, more feedback please.
Just called them and the kit for my 53 Caddy cost about $950.00. I have little to no time to install it so ill send it to a local shop for them to instal it. Im looking at around $2000.00 after im done with the project. This will happen after I finish the rebuild of the engine. Thanks for the tips guys.
Nu-Relics are a quality product. Just looked at one of their adds and unfortunately they have nothing listed for Cadillac's. I would call them anyway. Gary
http://nu-relics.com/hydraulic.html Here goes. $500 for 2 x assemblies without switches or wiring. The motor is 9 tooth Chevy Camaro. I bought the motors for $40 and modifying OEM assemblies to accept the motors. Pitch on OEM teeth is slightly different to motor gears Try this thread.
As far as I know everything nu relics has will not work on these applications. They have an excellent product, but nothing that works for these applications
FWIW, I recently had a drivers power window motor go bad on my 63 BelAir with an after market set up using Ford motors. I couldn't find a replacement motor locally and bought a Dorman all purpose motor part number 742-150 at Bumper to Bumper Auto parts for $50.00 that works fine after a slight modification to the mount bracket. Thought I got a great deal until I later looked on line and found the same motor for $28.00 at Parts Geek.

A friend of mine and I installed power windows in a 38 Chevy Coupe using the mechanisms from the rear doors of late 70s Olds/Buick/Pontiac 4 door sedans. Had to modify the arms a bit but the geometry was basically the same and just added the brackets from the new channels to the old. First door took all day, the other about 3 hours.
This post reminds me of a 33 Plymouth convertible from the mid 60s. It had 394 Oldsmobile. The builder scavenged every thing from a GM car. Hydraulic power windows and power seat. A hydraulic power top motor behind the seat. The suicide doors made it much easier. Just a simple push/pull cylinder to raise and lower the window. No regulator to adapt to an electric motor. We were walking around Hershey one year and spotted a 33 Plym. convertible My buddy said I have one of these at home and the stuck up restorer said no you don't there are only 3 east of the Mississippi. My buddy shot right back and said there are 4 then and mine has power windows!!!
Just do not forget, these cars do not have a window regulator as such, so ones like nu-relics will not work. They do not have a regulator spot to bolt this too. It is a scissor like affair that the cylinder pushes up to raise the window, and has springs to bring the window down.
I bought one of the linear style power window kits to replace the missing hydraulics in my 47 Lincoln. It has a track for the window to slide up and down on, and the motor pulls/pushes a geared track to raise/lower the window. Very simple design, same as used in a lot of late model cars. As a matter of fact, I found out after I bought my kit that the unit in my Freightliner Columbia door is the same design, and might be more heavy duty.
There are several vendors out there that supply linear accuators, I can't remeber which company I used in the quarter windows in my convertible
