I'm anxious to see the pricing. The B block with an OHV would be killer.

Thanks John for your reply. Here is a photo of the 235 M-45 oil pump on a friends engine, also notice the 283 pistons. You can see that the inlet was moved to the bottom of the pump. I need to know if the outlet was changed to go through the upper pumps body or if it ran with a outside pipe to the top of the pump. A photo from the back side would tell. I like the idea of running this pump because of the larger diameter of the gears and that they are only $66 dollars from Summit.
    Thanks again

  10. Bob,
Sorry, I haven't seen that car!

I don't know the heritage of my car. It, like most, is a no-name, unsung vestage of a long past time. All I know is: It lurks in my garage, sucking up tons of dough! But, we should have it ready for Buttonwillow Raceway on May 4th and 5th!

Need rocker arm/valve and torque specs for an original CRAGAR head.

  17. Although not quite as fancy as a race car. I picked up this dual updraft setup, a Police head, and a B dizzy this month. I dropped the pan for the first time to check the bearing clearances and check for sludge. Everything checked out and was sludge free. The good news is I have adjustable lifters! I hoping to have the pan back on this weekend and the valves checked and adjusted as needed. I still need to pull the head off the motor it came on and my head also. There's also the crappy repo muffler that doesn't fit right that I need to deal with. Its like 1/2" short between the engine and the hanger bolt. I'm really hoping to have the car back on the road by the end of the month.

    Hi Denis4x4
I just found my instructions for installing the Denver Miller Head, and it says
    12) Loosenall rocker arm screws, and tighten the rocker arm hold down bolts and nuts on studs to 30/35 foot pounds of torque. I'm sure it would also apply to yours.

Thanks for the info on the CRAGAR. Mine is an orginal head and the torque specs are 50-55 pounds. Got the rockers adjusted to .013".

Both head bolt torque and valve clearance are correct. My instructions
call for .012 but .013 is what I used. Usually you would use what your cam grinder would recommend unless your running a stock cam.

Yes, I am. Stock jetting is perfect: HOWEVER....

Being a later emissions style carb I used it was way too lean in the idle circuit and off idle, part throttle circuit. This was quite evident in engine operation and in testing with an wide band AFR meter.

The idle circuit has enough adjustment to easily clean that up. Also this later style carb has a sealed adjustable part throttle screw. Removing the plug allows for simple adjustment of the off idle part throttle mixture to perfection. This thing runs like a champ. I actually have the throttle linkage set to kind of hold back a bit from WOT to keep me from running the bag right off the poor thing.:eek: :D

It's a model B block with a cam, large valves and a HC head.

I do not have a Lyon head and have never used one.

Any used carb you get these days will have a history and it may be an ugly one.

Assuming (a big if) no one has been drilling in the carb itself I would use the carb number to get the OEM jet sizes in there. Failing that make friends with someone who has a portable wide band oxygen sensor setup and do a proper analysis. Seat of the pants carb tuning is enough to make anyone cry.
