Ok…we're not really on our honeymoon, in fact we are in our 25th year of being married. But there is something about a road trip that is sort of like a honeymoon.

Maybe it's the excitement of going someplace new, the months of planning and thinking about this day and finally, tomorrow it is time to set off. You wonder if the weather will hold for all those miles and will the van stay together for the trip out and back. There is alway a slight tinge of anxiety and worry when embarking on a 4000 mile drive in an old vehicle that, well, sometimes breaks down unexpectedly.

This will be my 6th year driving an old car from California to Austin for the Round Up so I guess its the new twist to this year's trip that has me a little nervous; my lovely bride Cynthia (yes, I still call her my bride after 25 years) is my driving buddy. It is just the two of us. No caravan of friends and their cars, no one else to worry about, just us.

Now I am not nervous because I think we won't get along; not at all, we are like two peas in a pod and have fun together doing pretty much anything. I realize as I type this that I may have over sold this whole thing. Every time I talk about my Round Up Road trips I do so with a starry eyed gaze and make even the most mundane stuff sound like an epic adventure. To me it is all the stuff epic adventures are made of; I just hope Cynthia feels the same.

The fact is that there a lot of miles that are pretty boring and some of the scenery is not that great. Then there is the bad food and the uncomfortable motel beds and all that other stuff that is the "filler" between the great moments. I guess that is it…will my bride find all the "filler" to be as wonderful as I do, will she come home wanting to load up and go again. The next few weeks will tell.

So bookmark this one and follow along as we take every possible two lane back road we can find and wander towards Austin Texas. The adventure starts first thing tomorrow morning.

Just to kick this off; here is a photo of the trophies we made for the 2014 lonestar Round Up. If you are at the show, please stop by and say hello, if not you can ride along with us here.

Finally dozed off somewhere north of midnight only to be startled awake at 3:00 am by my wife screaming. Turned out to be a bad dream she was having. She fell right back to sleep; I got up.

I predict a few EXTRA cups of coffee will be on the menu today.

The plan was to take photos of us in front of the house but its dark out and we are leaving in a few minutes. We will get a photo later after breakfast.

We always stop at the Summit Inn for breakfast but some drunk fool crashed thru the kitchen wall and they are closed for repairs. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1396104145.688279.jpg

No. He's a local guy. Built the truck from scratch.

Not this time. We are heading a more southern route for parts unknown.
