Are you looking for the S/SR carbs or the earlier ones with the rotary throttle butterfly?

John, Here are some pics of the Model N Winfield. Aluminum castings, they came in 1 3/4, 1 7/8, and 2 inch sizes. All used the same casting with different bore sizes. The early ones had the rectangular float bowl. This is the Winfield that can be used as a updraft, downdraft, or sidedraft.

I mocked up my 2x2 intake yesterday. Still need to rebuild my 81's, paint the header, mount the fuel pump, and finish the fuel line. Also have a Mallory dual point to install but Im going to wait until I get the carbs dialed in before messing with that.

    OH YEAH!! That looks great!!!

  14. So one day back in the late 50's or early 60's a friend asked me if I would give $20 for a pair of big Winfield side drafts. I said that I would see if I could spare the money and so later I said I would take them. They turned out to be 2" with barrel valve throttles. He brought them by the shop where I worked I paid him and we put them in the back of my pick up. On the way home I stopped by Bill Honda's Richfield to BS with the car guy's. Bill's brother Harry was there and as usual he was checking to see what speed parts I had. He saw the carburetors and said " I'll give you $30 for them" hey, I took it! Harry was a collector with various overheads, Cragars Riley's McDowells, complete engines shoved under his house. He had a drag roadster with a McDowell laid on an angle in it. Guy that used to drive it for him is still around but must be in his mid 80's, Harry died years ago.

The guy that sold me the carburetors had a dragster with an Alexander OVH in it.

Nah--One lump of iron looks the same as another to her. After 52 years absolutely nothing about being a gearhead has rubbed off on her.

  28. Can anyone point me to a thread or posts on Tillotsons versus Zeniths? I have a Z-1 that I was rebuilding, but one part (edit: it's the secondary well) will NOT relinquish its hold in the lower housing. I grabbed the carb off my spare engine, but its a Tilley! Do I try to find a lower housing and the steadfast part, or do I take the Tilley down and clean it up?

  29. I vote Tilly. It's what I run. It's a super simple carb. Just make sure not to tighten the top on too much. They warp easily

  30. If I take care of the gaskets, can I clean and reassemble the Tilly (I thought it was Tilley) without a rebuild kit? The carb looks really clean inside, as if it has been rebuilt before.

As for the Zenith, it is the secondary well that won't budge! Can it be drilled out? Anything I need to be cautious of?
