  5. I think it is a Cook copy. Neat looking, should flow good !

    Spoke to Jim Brierley this A M. He said he is feeling much better, been home almost 3 weeks, and slowly getting his strength back. Looking forward to a lot of therapy.

    Can someone post the proper way to figure out a final drive ratio in a model A'
    I know it involves the engines RPMs, each gears ratio in the transmission or what ever gear you happen to select to insert into the formula, the ratio of the ring & pinion, and the rolling diameter of the rear tires.....
    I have tried searching the internet for a formula, but I am probably not using the correct terms when searching on Google? What sort of final drive ratio should I be trying to achieve if the majority of my driving would be between 35 & 50 locally, and probably not more than an occasional short trip on the local interstate. Help ! Thanks, Steve :eek:

    I is a copy of the Cook head. The combustion chamber is improved. 13-1 compression with pop up pistons. This was Dan's personal head and the one they ran in the 4 ever 4
    belly tank at Booneville. This is the first head he finished. .
    Steve Serr has bought the patterns and the right to manufacture and sell it.

  15. I wanted to tell a cool story.

    When I was given my 1979 Ford F250 by my grandpa it was loaded with old tools and stuff. I know he had model A's when he was younger and was the type to never throw away anything. I've already found an old A kingpin

    anyways, that leads me to now.

    I am changing out the cam on my A engine. Never done it before(any tips?) I was looking for pictures of the proper tool and ran across a picture of a KD tools valve spring compressor. I immediately recognized it. I went downstairs and rummaged threw "the pliers box" and there this was.

    I use the same tool. It works pretty good.

    I got mine in a bucket of rusty tool. The bucket of tools had been sitting full of water for several years. The spring compressor was so rusty I didn't know what it was. I soaked all of the tools in Evapro-rust over night. The pliers worked just like new after that.

  17. RPM's X !/2 tire dia example 2500 RPM's X 14.75 (1/2 dia 6.50 16)=36875
    Gear ratio x 168, 3.78 X 168 =635.04 Divide 36875 by 635.04 = 58 MPH rounded off.

    Best thing for newbies to do is buy a speed power calculator from Jegs or Summit. With it you can calculate speed and compression ratio's, handy tool for dreamers and bench racers

    I have been taken to task because i posted the shortened form of the formula. The original uses full tire diameter and a constant of 336. I prefer the slightly shortened form because when I started we did this stuff with a piece of a pencil on the back of an envelope ! Like dividing 73750 by 1279.08

    Bill just check they are the older style there was a very small change in radius of the seat and new holley p/v don,t seal well in the 94s
    I don,t know when the change was made

    Can someone help solve a problem so my father can drive his A again, after surgery his left leg is weak and cannot operate the clutch pedal. Is there any way to lighten the pedal pressure? He tried driving a car with the 3 finger V8 pressure plate but the pressure is still too great. I was wondering if a late model pressure plate is adaptable to a lightened A flywheel. I don't know if this would be an improvement or not, just a thought. I am hoping someone out there has run into something similar. Thanks for any ideas to help the old man:D out.

    I have two cars that I have installed modern diaphragm pressure plates on lightened flywheels.

    Both have a very light pedal.

    Just be sure that when you set up the linkage that you only have enough movement to release the clutch a short distance before the pedal hits the floorboard. If you have too much clearance, you will overcenter the diaphragm and weaken it.

    Thanks guys for the info. As soon as the weather is a bit nicer I'll get started on the pressure plate switch.
    Bill the longer arm still doesn't lighten the pressure enough. But it is an option if the diaphragm clutch is still a bit stiff.

    You can use a Neal Products slave cylinder. Adjstment of the master's bore reduces the clutch pressuse


    Couldn't find Neal so try this

    Just brought home a 27/28 dodge fast four engine. Stock 44 hp , I'm hoping to get another 20hp with all the stuff I'm doing to it.
