Well.... Ive built a few hot rods and race cars on here but haven't had the chance to build a Model A Ford. It has always been one of my favorite cars. I traded a '35 ford coupe that was just a shell with no fenders for this model a. Its all original . Looks like maybe it was restored in the '80s. But needs it again. But we all know we ain't here for restoring ......

    Heres the start..

I already had a frame that I got awhile back on a trade deal.

had some good parts already but I needed to box the rails and finish the welds. I didn't like the 4 link on the front and I found the hairpins on the CL. Also Z'ed the rear .

Did most of the work thru the summer . Stalled for awhile but was able to get a few buddies out over the holidays to help swap the body onto the new frame.

It will really lite a fire when you get stalled out to see some real progress....

Here's the inside . Has all interior and a good seat just needs reupholstered. Has some rust but most is minor. Had to notch the rear sub-rails and there's some rust back there but by notching ill rebuild it anyway.

Plans are for a Chevy 350 with a 4 speed stick into a 9" ford rear.
I know ....not another SBC.... but im building this as a daily driver, road trip car and I want it to be basic and easy to find parts for on the road. by using this combo I can fix most problems on the side of the road just about anywhere. there always a parts house near by full of Chevy parts!

Still have a way to go but this will be a fun build and an even more fun to drive. Stay tuned!!!!

One last pic.... my daughter seen me taking pics and said I needed to be in one so she took over camera duty...

Yea ... i really like the '35 but it was just a shell. It needed alot of work and alot of money. Over $2k just for fenders.
And i still have a '34 ford truck and '27 touring to build.

Didnt get much done lately. Been under the weather. Also the weather hasnt been the best. Im in southeast Texas and it been to cold outside for me. I realy feel for you northern boys and all your snow.....
I pulled the gas tank because im going to cut the bottom out to put in gauges and elect. There was a strong smell of gas so i was not fond of blowing myself up so i pulled it to wash it out. And i can do some rust and wood repair. Im not sure what type of dash im gona use yet . I have a '32 style dash and a '35-'36 dash. But i do kinda like the stock type dash with new insturments install.
    More to come.

Workin on two like that. One is a deluxe coupe with dual sidemounts just like your original start. Drivin the original banger around town & an ol' boy (80's) says to me he used to have a "30's six-wheeler"... I thought, what the H is a "six-wheeler". Like dually rear commercial or farm truck?
Maybe thats common knowledge, but I had no idea what he's talkin about. Then he schooled me those deluxe coupe dual sidemounts were sometimes called
    six-wheelers?
learn somethun everyday. Fenders & sidemounts probably look good to some Model A Club at swap meet someday.
    Anyways...subscribed

Wife went to see her sister for the weekend . Sis lives 4 hours away so i got the whole weekend to myself. That means i got to spend it in the shop ! I sold the 4 banger to a friend with a '31 truck that dropped a piston so we spent half the day Saturday pulling it out.
Then i got to do some cutting and welding on my A. Got the firewall cut and notched out for the sbc. Still got some finishing to do the make it straight. A buddy that builds drag cars loaned me a foam mock up block to get things set . I tell you a 10 pound motor is a lot easier to handle!

  13. The storm we had come thru here last week in the region brought us -50 with the wind chill. It was fricken cold! I just got my '30 coupe body off the frame and in the process of tearing it down.

Streetrods are driven by Chevy, but hotrods are powered by FORD!

This weeks installment is dash works.....
Decided on the 35/36 dash. I pick it up awhile back at a swap meet. Someone had narrowed it for a model A already but it still needed some work. I figured out that it fit nicely to the A dash header. Was able to weld it directly to the header( or whatever you call it). Then it would just bolt right back in. Welded it up then put some magic mud on it and it came out surprisingly nice. Still haven't decided on gauges yet.....

Little update.... haven't done much in the last few months . Recouping from x mass and then took kids to Disney world for spring break eat up most of my money and then some....

Did get column and steering wheel built and hooked up. Still need to build a column drop. Have a mock up motor in place and real motor in the shop. But am having problem with pedal placement. Just not a lot of room in a model a.

Got a little done over the weekend. Trying to rebuild the rear sub-rails with some box tubing. They where pretty rusty and when I notch them out for the z in the frame there wasn't enough to hold up the body.

Was able to make the column drop and get my steering column installed. I built this using a piece of exhaust tubing and some bearing . Had a 3/4 round stock and made an adapter for the wheel i got at a swap meet. The exhaust tubing has a 11/2 inch diameter and i found out that a Model A four banger rod is 11/2". So i made up this little drop. The bell under the wheel was an old tach housing i drilled out and weld on. 0622141020a[1].jpg

mocked up the dash. Welded up the 3 original holes and replace with theses new Marshall gauges. Still have a few warning lights and switches to figure out , but im happy with the look.
