I have recently purchased a 1939 Lasalle Opera Coupe and am going to try to turn it into a pre war custom. I am going to start with lowering the rear and adding skirts. I am going to be adding small subtle touches such as an art deco firewall heater that is gutted and turned into an audio system for my phone to plug in to. I really want to chop it 2 inches but I will wait on that for a while. I am also going to change to 6.00-16's from 7.00-16's to bring it down a little lower.

Maybe you read that wrong Chris,
He went to 600-16's which aren't larger diameter than 700-16's;)

I was referring to our entry to WWII
    6.00-16 is 28.8" dia
    7.00-17 is approx 31"dia
The pre war smart phone was developed by the Germans in a secret lab before the war but was smuggled out and held in a warehouse in the US for 50 years. Ha

Thinking about 16" flipper caps? I like the Lasalle caps but....

Great looking car! In your second shot it looks like its got a bit of a forward rake (lower in the front). Generally, customs with skirts look better sitting level or just a bit lower in the rear.

Yea it was already that low in front. I am going to raise it to just above the rear.

Nice car Mike. Thats the look I went with also (see avatar). I still gotta lower mine 1 1/2" in the back since the chassis engineering kit raised it up! The avatar pic is before the CE kit.

Great looking car. Makes me wish I had kept my '38 Buick, these late '30's Big-GM's just plain look great with little to no trouble. I'd have a really hard time convincing myself to chop that one...

I just realized that I have never seen one of those, or at least didnt know what I was looking at if I did. What an absolutely beautiful car.....sorry if that was a bit dramatic, but it is awesome....

  24. Very nicely done - I would not chop it, looks spot on as is!

  25. A little chop off the top should look good, maybe get it photoshopped first to see what looks best. Two or three inches should be good.

Mike, You have a Great Looking Car !!! Back in the early 70's a friend had a 38 LaSalle Coupe with an Olds Rocket V-8. Steve drove that car everywhere.
Harley Earl and GM Art and Color really were on the mark when the LaSalles were built. They looked good then and they look good now.......................... Jeff

A candlestick phone would round out the theme. Really, that is a very classy looking machine.
