Minot Airport 1953- Ken Bischke, and Virgil Nordstrom, both avid pilots and co-owners of Farmers Spraying service. This airport service vehicle for their crop dusting outfit out of Minot North Dakota had been mothballed since the company was sold in 1980 to Eva Lucke. 27 years later it was found by its next owner,a woodworker and collector from Orcas island Wa. He got the truck home, got it running and it mostly sat in his barn until 2010 when my wife and I found a small ad on the Skagit Craigslist. The next day I jumped on the ferry and made the 5 hour trek. The following weekend my wife and I returned, and drove the truck home.
The truck was originally used to transport Chemicals and supplies to and from the aircraft, a Piper PA-11 pictured on the doors of the truck.Spending most of its life in an airport hanger has kept the truck remarkably dry and rot free.It also had a lot of aviation inspired repair work including safety wired fasteners in the most unusual places. Mechanically the truck is now well sorted. The service replacement 239 runs like a clock, and I have gone through all the brakes, rebuilt the springs, bushings and shocks. The suspension upgrades changed the attitude of the truck completely. These trucks never had rear shocks from the factory,so I added a crossmember and fixed that.New period look tires on the original "Widow Maker" wheels. More has been done than I care to document here- I would drive this truck anywhere.Goes down the road smooth and strait, stops on a dime and gives 5 cents change. The body is rock solid, and still wears whats left of its original 60 year old paint. Solid floor pans, with no holes. We have enjoyed this truck for a few years, using it on various camping trips, our wedding, and finally for our move from Vancouver to Victoria and during the restoration of our 90 year old home. Its been an awesome rig, but we are now expecting our first kid, paying for off site storage and have decided to move on to something that better suits our growing family. We are happy to hear all offers, and just want the truck to go to another good home. I have some cool period pieces that include an over, direct, under "brownie" Aux transmission complete with shifter and mounts, a 6volt football tach etc. that can be negotiated into the deal or sold separately. I will assist with shipping, and the truck CAN easily be exported from Canada to the US. 1953 Ford F-350, 9 foot flareside bed, 239 CID Flathead V8, 4 speed, 5.13 rear gear means 50 MPH is about it.This was the last year for the Flathead V8,the first year of the F350, and the 50th anniversary of Ford. Cool, and rarer than any F100, or F1 . Short Video clip here- http://youtu.be/SCUBaU7QWEc Call or PM Brian six zero four 3 two 9 6 four 88 Last edited by 1953Cletus; 01-24-2013 at 12:06 PM. |
