This will be our 52 Vicki build.
    we live up in Traverse city MI, it’s called the mad dash because well we will try to get it done before July 20th our wedding date.... although its ambitious it might get done. this build will be done in a few phases. i am a ex ASE certified mechanic, and have been through one of those lame auto high performance tech schools.. i have had my hands in a handful of other projects in the past but this will be the biggest one yet. So I figure I know enough to be dangerous and have plenty of tools to break something a few times here or there.

    About the car: 1952 Crestline Victoria 75 K original miles, running flattie, trans is burnt up and body needs some love, plan to do a traditional 50's style hot rod

    phase one
    Brakes - disks up front, new lines ect.
    Suspension - plan to lower it 3 inches or so rebuild and fix what’s needed. Drive train - newer rear axle, new trans.. might upgrade to a C4 or open to options,
    Engine- since its running will do some tune up / some minor speed parts
    Body- MI body rot repair, rear quarters and behind bumper are the majors, and then some other patches in elsewhere. and then some primer for now. also need some missing chrome pieces, also want to tuck bumpers
    Electrical - convert to 12 volt
    Interior - need front bench seat, and recover rear seat, basically needs to be addressed.

    Phase 2
    Suspension - air bags, some kind of 4 link set up rear
    Engine - rebuild and more speed parts
    body, more repairs, maybe some custom metal work and a nice paint job

    Phase 3 undecided yet...

    i have been stalking on the h.a.m.b for years and proud i can finally start a traditional build. you guys have inspired me for a long time i will be asking lots of questions and hoping to steal some knowledge !

    Do you know the Aerostar coil spring swap for lowering these? Looks like a good project, glad to see the flathead is staying.

    Looks good. We will have to get together in TC some time for breakfast and talk cars. I think I remember seeing this one and a convert for sale on CL?

  7. Also Olds taillights will fit the back easily:cool:
     
  8. great find. just an fyi, put a short piece of chain around the cross member of the car, take that pulley with the hook on it and hook it in the chain. put the come-a-long cable over the pulley and bring it back and hook it to the trailer close to where your ratcheting. takes half the work out of it.

    thanks guys!! ive found alot of great information here on the Hamb! just got to find some sheet metal... lower rear quater on driver side and some other patches... biggest one and i cant seem to find anywhere , the rear panel behind the bumper yet. i called EMS and they plan to make the part... in the future... looks like ill be making it by hand.

    anyone have any transmission recomendations for the flattie our FOM is burnt up, i would like to stick something in it with OD, trying to keep cost down for the swap and as much as i would like to have a manual in it i think im going to stick with and auto.
     
  15. If you do decide to go to a manual transmission, a t-5 is the way to go. Can get a little pricey, as it takes adapters and whatnot. You might look into an AOD, I'm sure others will chime in about that.
    I can attest that puttnig a t-5 in one of these cars is a pain, but a worthwhile pain!

    T-5 Conversion is super slick. I also did it on a '53 Ford. There are a few threads on here about it.

    hey guys, any suggestions for rear axle assemblys to swap int he ford? i heard of late model ranger or explorer axles will work ... im looking to upgrade to disc brakes in rear whats your thoughts? thanks

    Overkill.
    Unless your drag racing the car, drum brakes on the rear will be fine. If your heading into GR let me know. I have a AOD core sitting in my shed you can have. Came with a 351C I picked up so I do not know anything about it.

    Well thanks, i might take you up on the AOD, if im down in the GR neck of the woods. although i would need to find an adaptor plate for it, as far as the rear axle we need to upgrade ours is pretty toasty and i would like to find something with a LSD of some sort and disc brakes just my prefrence i know drums are just fine but if i can upgrade at the same time as swaping out the axle why not. ive found a few explorer 8.8 axles and from what i found they are 57 hub to hub and the vickie sotck is 57 1/2 hub to hub plus i have more options for gear ratio as well. i do appericate all input tho!

    My '52 has a '70 Maverick 8" in it, fits fine but the center hub hole is a bit bigger so I had to ream the centers of my steel wheels out a bit to fit. My '53 has a '70 Mach 1 9" in it, that one had no center hole issues.

    The easiest rear axle swap is the 57-59 Ford passenger car 9" rear, they're practically a bolt-in. The station wagon and Ranchero ones had bigger axle bearings in them and are a bit more saught-after.

    well scratch that found that the ford 8.8 are 59 inches hub to hub back to the drawing board

    thanks for the info problem with the older axles is here in MI they arnt plentiful and as earlier stated i would like to find something with possi or limited slip ive got a lead on a explorer 8.8 with disc and 373 gear and possi, for a steal of a deal. i just not sure since im finding out those are 59 1/2 hub to hub and making sure bolt pattern is same i belive so at 5x 4.5

  25. You may also want to check on the later Ford area of the Fordbarn.com (similar format to here as Ryan runs it) - might be some good info possible there ... my buddy is doing a 53 and the 52-53 have really grown on me and have a really nice body style ....

    Raceron1120 and I believe Torchie have talked about an older car salvage yard up in your area for locating an 8" or 9" rear. You will have plenty of gear choices if that is the way you go.
