I agree 100% with you! I love the 39's for the headlights, pop out windshield and tailights but the 40 dash is mucho sexy!!! Overall....I guess I'd take a 39 though if they were side by side...

I prefer the 1939 Deluxe- 1939 Standard and 1940 Deluxe are quite different so not all 39's or all 40's are the same-

I lust after a 39 coupe. I am way too poor to ever have (a good ?) one. Funny I still want a 39 Ford, cause I have a gang of rusty 40-41 Lincoln Continentals, and the resemblance is obvious.
And 2nd reason, 39 was the first of the good transmission syncronizers. Ever hear any one brag about having a 38 floorshift. Its always 39. |

If I couldn't have both, I'd take the 39 over the 40.

I prefer the '39. It is much smoother. The headllights match the fenders, No vent windows, the side moldings are cleaner, and the grill is a classic.

I am a 40 deLuxe guy all the way but a 39 DeLuxe and 40 Standard very close seconds. Ford got those years right! I agree on the 40 dash being the best dash
Ford ever made! I like all three! |

I do believe the 40 Standard has the best of both 39 and 40 Fords - but, if I had to choose between the two, 39 ....

I like the '39. But, then, you could always adapt a '39 front clip on a '40...and have 'em both, if you really couldn't decide.
![]() My Dad had a new '41 when I was a tot. Sadly, we had no "full-frame" pictures of it that I can find. It was a gray, 2 door sedan, dog-dish hubcaps. Bad news was it seemed to be a target for every drunk driver in St. Louis ! My poor Dad never hit anyone in his life, but that '41 was hit about at least three times during its life from 1941 to 1950, by "bottle jockey's" who should have been kept off the road. My dad told me the bootleggers used the 39 standards because they were cheaper to buy so that mattered when they rolled them!

There is something really appealing about the simplicity of the '39 compared to the '40 Ford Deluxe.....dash, taillights, grill, headlamps.

'41 Business Coupe... I towed one home yesterday. I know it's not quite as snazzy as a '39 or '40, but I've never run with the cool kids anyway.

The '39 DeLuxe has better looking headlights, grille, dash and opening windshield. That's why I prefer them. But, I do like the 40's tail lights and trunk handle better than a '39. I had this on my '39.
